The tartness is too overwhelming. As much as I try and try to like these types of beers, I just can not f-ing get it. Fruit can be a nice addition to a beer, but perhaps, IMHO, shouldn’t be the foundation of a beer. Stouts with flavoring can be good, but what the heck was this before they added all the cherries? Puckered my lips almost in the fashion of a Carillon. The wife loved it though, so she got to finish off the bottle. hellbilly (1577), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA

bottle from the baconator aka thecheeseman... woohoo! a whole bottle to myself! opaque mahogany brown with a small nutty white head. this smells like i imagine an open field full of goats grazing on herbs and grass in the clean air in south of france smells... that dream mixes with tart cherries (almost brined?), wood, grass, herbs, earth, cinnamon and cream. it’s sweet on the palate but at no time is it cloying. very rich flavors or the aroma along with cooked cherries, vanilla, graham cracker/maltiness and a beautiful fruity tartness. spicy finish really helps to clean it up. full body leaves a smooth buttery film on my teeth. spice and tartness/acidity keep it real...10/4/10/5/19/4.8... | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 11, 2009 Bottle with thanks to dalzale. Pour is a deep brown that is almost red, but not quite. Head is a thin layer of tiny bubbles that are as pink as they are tan. Aromas are heavily cherries... at times they come across as sweet, at times they seem tart, but they are undeniable and I can’t pick out much else. Flavor is similar, the cherry presence is almost like pie filling in that it is simultaneously sweet and tart. This is very good stuff, but it is pretty unidimensional. Aroma is an intoxicating sweet/tart cherry that starts to fill the room before I bring the glass up to my nose. Flavors are cherry of course but a bit earthy like skins or stems. Sweet with lingering tart trailer.
Rate is from memory a few days ago. Will have another soon and update. LilBeerDoctor (1549), East Setauket, New York, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 16, 2008 Updated: Nov 1, 2008Bottle courtesy of xmarcnolanx. Pours a dirty brown/red with a small tan head. Aroma of those cherry icepops that come in 100-per box and you squeeze out of plastic wrapping. Flavor is lots of cherry syrup, cinnamon, baked cherry pie, and tartness. Not as luscious as Raspberry Tart, but still tasty. Slightly artificial to me though.
Update 11/01/08: Had this again and noticed a lot more tart cherry candies this time. Nice tartness! yobdoog (1543), Woodridge NY, New York, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Sep 28, 2007 Updated: May 5, 2008I love this brew. Had a five year old and a new to compare. The sour really come out in the new one. The aged one mellowed quite a but but the body was amazing. Still sour but an oak malt sour not just from the cherries. Beautiful red color with some light bubbles for the new one but the aged version had darkened and now has more of an unfiltered look. Still delicious anytime. Swalden28 (1538), McKinney, Texas, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jun 16, 2009 Bottle thanks to thirdeye11. Pours a hazy/cloudy dark red, no real head. Aroma is GREAT, full of cherry and malt, some acidic. Flavor of cherry, malty, tasted just like a liquefied Mrs. Bairds cherry pie. Mouthfeel is smooth, medium body with crisp carbonation. Overall, GREAT SHIT!! 17thfloor (1526), Chicago, Illinois, USA
| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Dec 23, 2008 Updated: Dec 25, 2008Pours a unclear murky dusty burnt faded red with a thick creamy light red froth on top, looks delicious. Aroma of very juicy cherries, similar to black cherries, simple yet fresh and enticing. First taste is acidic followed immediately by tart and ever so juicy sour cherries, this stuff is sooo tasty Im trying to gulp it. It really tastes like a cherry capri sun and the yeast adds that pie crust like effect. Long acidic finish. The body is excellent and very appropriate, not sticky nor syrupy, just enough consistency, more of a blend between soda and juice. ooo haha this might be one of the only beers Ill ever drink cold.
