Straight from the tanks, unfiltered, this bier has undergone its third and final fermentation in the bottle in order to insure you the freshest possible lager bier. Expect this bier to be smooth, full-bodied, and slightly cloudy. The brewer’s yeast imparts a mild, fresh character which is as close as you can get to brewery fresh.

Decent looking brew, pouring a lightly cloudy pale golden. Aroma is lightly hoppy with a pinch of spiciness. Flavor is lighty sweet on the front end. The finish is dry and a little spicy. Nothing special, but would be nice on a hot summer day here in Texas.

12 oz: Hazy orange yellow below a thin white head that forms into small clumps. Wonderful floral hop aroma that, because of the rounded maltiness, reminds me of several great czech lagers. Smooth taste that is slightly chewy on the palate and offers great flavours of sweet lemon zest, soft hay and tangy grass. Fully balanced and well done.

Slightly cloudy golden yellow with a very thin, off-white head. Light, crisp hop aroma with nice malt undertones. Crisp, refreshing and tasty. A wonderful, balanced blend of malt and light hops create an enjoyable drinking experience.

Alcohol, hops and some wheat in the nose. The colour is lighter amber golden with lots of bubbles with medium white big bubbly heat that is quckly diminishing. Good amounts of lacing on the glass. The taste has lots of barley right off, then moves into what then again goes bitter with barley again. Quite interesting just not very drinkable.

Somewhat cloudy golden orange in color with a white rapidly diminishing head. Very fresh citrus nose with some malt peaking through. The flavor is citrus, yeast and hopps with tingly carbonation and a malty sweet aftertaste. The yeast and citrus linger on a bit too.

First from the style, First from the brewery and i'm already impressed. Hazy bright orange colour with a thick dense white head. Aroma of strong malt, a light hoppiness and even the mild aroma of a belgian white. Smells super clean with no outstanding/offensive aromas. Very light bodied; Thin maltiness in the taste with a bit of a floral/grassy taste and a small amount of hops noticeable in the taste. Aftertaste is just as clean, almost nothing to speak of, but a bit of freshness and some floral characteristics. Overall, fairly nice looking and smelling, but I confir that something should be added to the taste to make it more 'full' and defined. I was lucky enough to get this twelve ounce bottle in a trade with BigBadBear63 and sampled it on 17-December-2003. Thanks again Mike!

If I’ve ever had a kellerbier/Zwickel, I must have called it something else, so this is in truth a rarity for this “Old Dawg Face/Gob”. The pour is a somewhat bemused golden-orange color with the head bright white in color and the texture frothy, the size is modest with the residual lace a bit thin and patchy. Nose is malt laden, somewhat sweet with lemon-lime crispness, fresh and pleasant this nose, start is sweetly malt and the top fair to middling in its feel. Finish is mild to moderate in carbonation, the hops subdued but pleasant and the aftertaste droughty, an interesting beer.

My wife bought me a "gift pack" of six different brews from New Glarus--some of which I'd never tried before (and I only live about 1/2 hour from the brewery!). As far as I know, this is the first zwickel style of beer I've ever had so it's tough to evaluate it relative to others of this type. But whatever, I was impressed with this beer. Gorgeous medium golden color with a nice, full head when poured from the bottle. Taste was very well rounded, with a good hearty maltiness & decent spunk from hops--almost a citrus note there. I detected a slight yeastiness to the beer that I liked. Overall, very flavorful with a nice body.

It's always fun to have samples of this style. Nice yeasty floral aroma. The flavor that is there is very nice, not unlike some of Kraftbrau's lagers. But more is needed--it needs to fill itself out more.
