Once a year sour beer. Not really sour, but a wonderful finish similar to a less sweet lambic. On my way to see if they still have any more left.

UPDATED: JUN 20, 2014 Modest head that went fast. Unique dark amber/purple (!) color. Flavor is tart fruit, oak and lambic sourness. Wonderful sour ale! I wish: price was less than $12.99/22 oz., it was available year around and it was packaged in 12 oz. bottles! Rerate: 2014 version is about $7.99/22 oz. and seems to have more oak barrel aroma. A wonderful sour!

UPDATED: AUG 6, 2016 Rating #4500 (beer #2 of 3 to celebrate the milestone) Blue Sunday #16, Vintage 2013 Deep hazy dark brown coloured body with a nice, one centimetre tall tan head that fades fast with a lighter brown glow at the bottom. Aroma of ridiculously sour grapes, lemon, cherries, oak, vanilla, cognac and cedar, alcohol, bourbon and a hint of grass - very nice, complex and mouth watering! Medium-bodied; Very nice mouthful of silky soft malt with a very nice layered sour flavour of cherries and grapes then showing a more refined sour flavour of lemon and oak mixed with bourbon, cognac and dry grass. Aftertaste shows an amazingly balanced sour with malt, alcohol, sugars and oak coupled with a high level of sour flavours, but masked by the dry complexity. Overall, a great beer overall and one that fits the style perfectly - layered, complex, balanced yet ridiculously complex and yes, still sour. A great beer and well worth finding and keeping for a while - i’ll definitely keep a couple of these around if I can find them! I could have sampled some aged gueuze that I’ve brought back from Belgium over the years, but this was a great beer to encapsulate the milestone - a great beer of the style and to enjoy - from my hometown state of Michigan right here in the best beer country int he world - America. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Liqour Outlet in Boonton, New Jersey on 24-February-2013 for US$12.14 sampled at home in Washington on 27-April-2014, after only aging this for a bit over a year (not much for me) - but a great beer to have under the auspice of 4500 beers! Blue Sunday #18 (2015 Vintage) Nice clear crisp brown coloured body. Slightly vinegary in the nose with a lot of sourness, oak and dry cherries. Light to Medium-bodied; Super complex sour flavour with vinegar, cherries, raspberries, oak, vanilla and grapes all noticeable - very nice and simple to drink! Aftertaste is clean and complex with a lot of sour elements and a rich oaky, tannic flavour. Overall, still as good as I remember - I need to get a few more of these to cellar! I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Whole Foods in Washington (P Street NorthWest, Logan Circle), DC on 23-February-2015 for US$12,99 sampled at home in Washington on 04-August-2016 in remembrance of my Uncle, from Michgan, R.I.P. Pours red with a billowy tan head. Wonderful aromas of funk, black pepper, orange zest, burlap, hay, and wood. Flavor is incredibly smooth, initial malty warmth smoothly becomes progressively sour as wood esthers, dark fruit, burlap, soil, and common wood sorrell (sour clover), with a going-away cheese-like funk and a sweet tart moment, leading to a grassy finish. The most interesting aspect is how it transitions slowly and smoothly into each moment on the palate, with no abruptness between profiles. Incredible.

Clear dark purple ruby with an aroma like blueberry cake and a bit of lactic woody barrel. Wonderful flavor of tart blueberry and woody lacto sour tones. A little cake like but wonderfully sour and flavorful.

Vintage 2012. Chestnut colour with a small off-white head. Classic American Sour aroma of dried fruit, caramel, fresh oak barrel and mild balsamic vinegar. Sweet and sour flavour of caramel, fruit and vinegar with strong oak character.

Bottle... This beer rocks!… Clear dark brown ale with glimmers of burnt-orange and a small, creamy, off-white head. Decent retention. The bouquet offers caramel and purple grapes with whispers of both oak and acidity. Full-bodied and lightly creamy with tickling carbonation. The flavor is quite sour - acidic and acetic – furnishing sour cherries, caramel, toasted oak and a small splash of red wine vinegar. Finishes tangy and fruity. Big-time kudos goes out to growler for sharing this world class beauty!
