Originally reviewed: 1/12/11. 22oz bottle, vintage ’10, poured into a chalice. Pours a dark ruby-tinted mahogany with a thin beige head on top. The nose is full of sour pale fruits, apple, white grape, musty wood. Very nice nose. Begs me to sip. Moderate carbonation; mellow finish. At first sip this reminds me distinctly of New Glarus Unpl. Enigma. Seriously. This could be a clone. Mushy old apples, slight funk, sour grapes, hints of oak. Lots of flavor on this one. The finish is short and somewhat of a disappointment. What tarteness is there, disappears quickly. This is so easy to sip, dare I say gulp, that the alcohol sneaks up on you. Beware. This is my first of the style, and not sure how true-to-form it is, but I enjoyed it. I liked Enigma, and I like this. Good beer.

Bottle. Vintage 2012. Dark copper pour with a short, fizzy tan head. Aroma is sour fruit notes, sweat, wet leather, damp earthiness and soft vinegar notes. Taste is sour fruit, tart berries, wet leather, sweaty socks, damp earth, wet wood and grains. Body is light-medium with a dry mouthfeel, soft prickly carbonation and a lingering acidic tartness. Finishes with more sour fruit notes, malt, wheat, unripened fruit, tart berries, leather and damp woody notes.

From a bottle poured a dark amber color with almost no head. Light tart malty flavor with a lingering aftertaste.
