Chocolate and dark. Very calm....simple finish. I like a little more bite on the finish, but I like it. I would consider it again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Large bottle consumed at home in pint glass. Black with a little bit of a dark brown element. Tannish frothy head...about half a finger. Aroma reminds me of chocolate milk...almost a stout like quality. Taste follows suit leaning away from traditional black IPAs with a softer mouthfeel and a stronger roasted malt flavor. Bitterness comes through towards the end but it feels muted. It’s a little boring overall. There are much better black IPA options available.

bottle @ Party Town / Florence KY --- Opaque Black/brown color, heavy beige rim head, curtains of lace. Aroma of dark malt. Taste is straight toasted malt that adds light carbonation on the swallow before turning to hops in the finish. Uncomplicated, but full-bodied, and a riot at 5.5%abv. I like it. Recommended.

All three New Holland "Hatter" bombers were vegetal - old maybe? This is pretty "meh" to me. There’s just not much black in this black IPA. Just a little at the end.

Not a style that I am particularly fond of... This one is not bad though. Tastes a bit like black tee. Bitter, light citrus, and roasty notes.

Not bad. Near black pour with dense tan head. Aroma is roast malt, but kind of plain. Taste is roasted malt and hops. Ok.

Bomber - pours nice cola color and medium head that dissipates but laces the glass. The aroma is slightly unbalanced with more citrus and pine than roasty char. Great layered hop presence but not as much burnt flavor as is needed. Delicious but not outstanding. Great for the price of $5

651 ml. bottle. 2014 Vintage. Pours a medium, well retained, tiny bubbled, light beige head, with some lacing, over a clear, dark brown (SRM 30) body....nose is roasted malts with chocolate, light coffee notes, light pine, citrus peel, no esters, balanced.....taste is moderate chocolate, coffee, with hints of toffee/caramel sweetness, becoming dry, pine, resin, grapefruit, floral notes, finishing with a lingering moderate hop bitterness, balanced, no esters....mouth feel, light of medium body, no alcohol, light carbonation. This is a light take on the style. It is a session-able Black IPA. It is quite low in alcohol compared to many others in the top 50 on Ratebeer. Additionally, the aromas and flavors, while being reasonably true to style, are all light. It needs more in both the malt and hop backbones to compete with the best. BJCP 7/3/12/4/6

Pours a dark black with a large frothy tan head that sticks to the side of the glass. Aroma has a strong piny nose, mild citrus hops in the middle with a nice toasted and roasted malt finish. Some caramel and Munich-like aroma with a light coffee bitter end. Flavor is better as it warms. Starts off with a great toasted malt sweetness with some mild bitter coffee notes right before the hops take over. The bitterness of the malt compliments the piney, resinous from the hops well. A lighter citrus flavor comes in later to help smooth the flavor out. Balanced pretty nicely with a light dryness and low, fine carbonation. Overall not a bad brew. Hops was balanced with the malt quite nicely. For the price, a definite brew I will get again.
