Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a thick tan head. Aroma of citrus and grassy hops. Predominantly hoppy notes in the aroma with just a hint of roasted malt at the end of your sniff. Flavor is light roast up front, lots of malt, some coffee notes, and bitter resiny hops in the finish. Nice black IPA, very smooth and drinkable. Light but solid palate. I enjoyed it overall.

pours dark brown with thick tan head and lots of lacing.appearance reminds me off a good root beer actually.aroma is a combination of licorice and pine.taste wasnt quite what i was expecting.thought i was going to get a big hop punch but it just wasnt there.flavor is pine, anise and has a chalky characteristic in its finish.mouthfeel was a little flat and with the amount of head that i seen was expecting it to be more lively.appearance and aroma were nice but its lacking flavor.

Bottle shared by bhensonb. Pours reddish brown with a decent beige head and a citrus and treacle aroma. There is a treacle and anise flavor with a bit of chocolate and a strong floral citrus finish. It’s a nice combination of tastes.

Bomber from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours dark brown with ruddy/gold glints. Aroma is sort of sassafras. Med body. Flavor is sort of herbal over light, very light, chocolate malt. Quite interesting. A little floral in the finish.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 SPDickerman (700) - Texas, USA - AUG 4, 2012
Pours dark ruby red with a medium light tan head. Smells of coffee and hints of cocoa. Taste is lightly bitter, hints of coffee and dry chocolate. Medium-bodied with a lightly chalky texture and mild mouth-carbonation, New Holland Black Hatter finishes dry and much like a weak stout.

Bottle:   Nice and black, large frothy sandy head, spotty lacing.   Moderate hop nose, slighter roast, and even slighter pasture.   On the tongue its more of an IPA as the roast aspect is minor.   Pasture is there, but thankfully its not too strong.   Not a big Black IPA, but certainly a decent body and mouthfeel.   IPA is forefront on the finish, very slight roasted malt aspect.   I am glad the cow pasture so commonly associated didnt really show up on the tongue.   As is, a very light and entry level type IPA.   Its not overly bitter, but has some decent hop aspects.   If I had this blind I may not even say its a Black IPA, thats how pale the roastiness is.   Decent for what it is, and perhaps more likeable to those who dont like Black IPAs.   Average in my book, but clean and easy to drink.   No astringent or acrid bitterness with this one.

Bomber, 2012 vintage. Poured medium-deep garnety-brown with a dense yellowy-beige head. The aroma picked up pine and citrusy hoppage paired with toasted chocolate and light smoked malts.. fresh and well-balanced.. not one of my favorite styles, but they did a good job with it. The flavor found sticky, roasty black, licorice, and chocolate malts, with fresh, grainy pine resin and earthy bitterness around.. finished a little tangy and bitter, with pine over lightly-smoked black malts. Medium-bodied with enough carbonation to keep it moving through the palate.. good flow to it.. very solid brew.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 markwise (3806) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - JUL 23, 2012
Thanks to PaulUnwin for sharing this bomber. Cheers, Paul! Pours a hazy brown with an off-white head. Nose is roasted malts, cocoa, and a bit of pine and citrus. Flavor is roast and cocoa up front quickly followed by pine hops with the hops lingering around the finish until some earth surfaces to remind that it’s still here. Light to medium in body and interesting overall.
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 FROTHINGSLOSH (3989) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 23, 2012
From the July 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured an almost black color with a medium sized foamy beige head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was floral and roasty. The flavor was dry, floral, roasty and very bitter with a touch of vanilla. The finish was long, dry, roasty and floral. Medium body. Typical for style meaning it sucked.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 TheBrewSherpa (269) - Belvidere, New Jersey, USA - JUL 21, 2012
Poured from a 22 ounce bomber into a tulip glass.
A: Pours a deep garnet with a thin cap of tan head, quickly receding to a thin film that lasts for the duration and leaves thick swaths of lacing in the glass.
S: Citrus and pine and some sweet and slightly roasty malt notes.
T: Light roasted malts up front with faint whispers of chocolate to balance out the malt. Followed by floral hops that counter balance the malt flavor. Hints of bready malts toward the middle of the beer. Chocoalte malts come back with light roast notes toward the end. Piney hops give a nice crisp hop bite in this beer. Alcohol is light and clean tasting in the ending.
M: On the thinner side of medium with good carbonation.
O: As a fan of New Holland, I was totally pumped up to try this beer, maybe a little to pumped up. It wasn’t bad, by any means, but I felt un-impressed by the beer. I’ve heard that potential is wasted talent, and that seems a bit harsh, but this beer clearly has a lot more potential than it expresses.
