At Rockwell’s By no means a hop bomb but decently hopped. A little lighter in body than some other IPA but not in a bad way. Some roasted flavor and some coffee flavor. Decent stuff. Serving: Tap

22 oz bottle into a pint glass. The pour is a dark dark brown/light black with solid presences of garnet around the edges. There is a decent light khaki head that falls down to a film, leaving a lightly spotty lace. The aroma is lightly roasty with a nice light caramel body to it. On the back end there is a little more of a light hoppiness and citrus presence. It's surprisingly light and doesn't carry a dominating presence. The flavor is similar. There is a good roasty, hoppy character, but then it falls off in a hurry. The mouth feel is really thin. There is a light carbonation, followed up by a lightly bitter roasty aftertaste that also vanishes quickly. Not very impressed ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Not bad. I swear there is a slight taste of cola. Nose has pretty delicious, bready sniff. I’m not sure I’m a huge fan of black IPA.

FROM NOTES: July 22, ’12 Poured from a 22 ounce bomber into a tulip glass. A: Citrus and pine and some sweet and slightly roasty malt notes. A: Pours a deep garnet with a thin cap of tan head, quickly receding to a thin film that lasts for the duration and leaves thick swaths of lacing in the glass. T: Light roasted malts up front with faint whispers of chocolate to balance out the malt. Followed by floral hops that counter balance the malt flavor. Hints of bready malts toward the middle of the beer. Chocoalte malts come back with light roast notes toward the end. Piney hops give a nice crisp hop bite in this beer. Alcohol is light and clean tasting in the ending. P: On the thinner side of medium with good carbonation. O: As a fan of New Holland, I was totally pumped up to try this beer, maybe a little to pumped up. It wasn’t bad, by any means, but I felt un-impressed by the beer. I’ve heard that potential is wasted talent, and that seems a bit harsh, but this beer clearly has a lot more potential than it expresses.

Pour from a 22oz bomber. A truly black brew iwth small tan head. Aroma of burnt grains, some resin. Taste is sweet malts and burnt grain at the start, very much like a sweet stout, a little coffee and bitter, at the start. Stays steady with a modest bit of resinous bitter at then end. Very enjoyable, but rather mild for the genre.
