3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: DEC 13, 2005 Bottle, purchased July ’05. I keep focusing on the name and being surprised when this pours out a nice golden color, with a blush of red in the center. Aroma is a light syrup with overtones of medicinal alcohol. Extra strong taste, but not as “beery” as might be expected. Strange rubbery aftertaste, with notes of pear and apricot, then a strong suggestion of honey. My label does not mention the tulip petals, certainly can’t get any suggestion of it in this batch. Despite the distractions mentioned here, it’s a fine, heady drink, at least pleasing to the eye.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
12 oz single bottle from Molly’s Spirits. Clear golden appearance with a white head and a touch of lacing. Aroma of fruity esters, banana, clove, alcohol, caramel, toffee and yeast. Similar flavor, with a heavy cloying sweetness. Medium to fully body with a syrupy feel and a sweet finish. OK.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz. bottle. Vintage 2015. 10.5% ABV per the label. Pours a thin, well retained off white head, over a slightly hazy dark gold (SRM 6) body.....nose is spice, including hints of ginger, ripe banana, herbal hops, cereal....taste is slightly sweet with banana, bits of bubblegum, multiple spices including cardamom, clove, ginger, light cereal malts, becoming lightly peppery, finishing with mild spice hop bitterness......mouth feel, light of medium body, sticky, alcohol warmth present, carbonation adds slight creaminess. The banana and attendant bubblegum notes in both aroma and flavor are a bit stronger than typical in this style. It does not approach Hefeweizen levels. The result is a beer a bit too sweet, not quite spice dominated enough, and muddled. Perhaps a change in yeast or yeasts and using less beet sugar would improve. This is a different recipe than the original as evidenced by the Vintage and the higher ABV. BJCP 7/3/13/4/6

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
I don’t see too many straight tripels from American breweries much any more so this was a welcome surprise. Rich and malty with lots of dark fruit, some candy sugar and molasses.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Well worth $9.99 a 4-pack. Some 4-packs have settled yeast/Michigan beet sugar and others do not. Turning horizontal bottle before opening lifts what’s settled off bottom dramatically improving body and flavor. It’s not the Chimay Belgian Ale I grew up on30+ years ago, but be sure to only purchase 4-packs with yeast on bottom. Apparently some batches or most recent batches have eliminated it’s introduction thus diminishing character in this brew.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cloudy golden with a thin white foamy head. Earthy eatery Belgian nose with a bit of Belgian blonde malt. Big fluffy Belgian blonde malt with big yeasty tripel esters, banana, and a hint of booze and a bit of toast/biscuit. Really full and rich and complex. Nice and crisp but also estery and fruity and yeasty. Really keen.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a peachy orange gold. Some soapy head. Aromas of sweet buttery caramel fruit bannanna and mixed fruit juicy, pepper, anise. marshmello spice. Same in taste, banana cream, bigger on peppery clovy(but not reall clovy) spice , some clove anise or licorice like, rich malt but smooth, buttery, a little more on the sweet side, 10.5% bottle by the way, not real boozy, orange, citrus, some grassiness and some dryness in finish. Pretty good. Pretty pleasant, not much to not like about this and Im not mostly real big on American Interpretation of Belgian style. I would say this is up there with some of the good authentic Belgian beer.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Aroma is mildly spicy/Belgian yeast and pale malts. The flavor is Belgian yeast, fruit, spices, vegetables and a mildly tart/sour/increasingly warming finish.
