COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Envious is a unique beer, a hybrid of many techniques. Its high-gravity malt-fermented base is blended with Michigan pear juice and chardonnay yeast for a second fermentation, before being aged with raspberries and oak. Unlike any style or beer before it, it must be tasted to be appreciated.

Bottled. Dark garnet with a thin, bright white head. Syrupy brown sugar, molasses, cherry cordial nose with a moderate amount of alcohol. Flavor is mildly sweet and very mildly sour with a bit of pear flesh, caramels, cherry juice and cardboard. Stale.

650 ml. 2011 vintage. Pours a deep mahogany with a lasting thin film of foam. Aroma is raisin, raspberry, toffee, grape and honey. Taste is lightly tart raspberry and dark cherry, prune and raisin. Big fruit and malt, but there’s an undercurrent of pithy bitterness and lightly peppery zest. Long finish hints at chocolate and blackberry, and this is also where I finally can detect some nice light-toasted oak. Medium body is to the sweet side, but finishes with a delicate bitter and acidity that dries everything well. Low-medium carbonation is nice and there’s hardly a trace of the abv.

Bottle thanks to Matt. Pours a cloudy amber with small off white head. The aroma is grape jam and funk. Medium mouth with nice jam raspberry, oak and sweet finish. Good.

Brown pour with an off-white head. Big berry aromas not much oak to speak of though. The initial taste was pretty disappointing, very weak body and the fruit flavors are minimal. Nowhere close to as flavorful as I thought it would be. Not unpleasant but leaves much to be desired.

Pours a reddish color with a light off-white head. Has a nice, sweet raspberry aroma. Flavor is a combination of sweet raspberry and Chardonnay, with very faint tartness. I don’t detect the pear. The body is on the light side, watery. This is a good beer, though I wish there was more fruit than Chardonnay in the flavor.

Murky brown with a cream head. Nose is light cherry, wood, yeast, faintly sour. Easy palate, not so sour, malts, not so sour, toffee, and a light finish

Rated on 8-29-2010. This bottled beer pours a small fizzy tan head that quickly dissipates, transparent reddish body, fast rising carbonation, and virtually no lacing. The aromas are oak, sweet, tart, pear, and raspberries. The taste is sweet, acidic, raspberries, fruity, hint of malt, and finishes semi-dry. This beer provides a lively palate and this beer is medium bodied. Overall, this beer has a definite raspberry presence. It is an okay beer for the style, but is a beer that I will not drink again as the flavors could have been better than what they are.

Poured from a bottle. Dark maroon color, medium to small off white head. Sweet alcohol raisin and pear aroma. Light fruit flavor with a light body and a fairly week finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Heavy oak and dark fruit aroma. Has a watery upfront taste. It’s not sour or tart in any way. A lot of carbonation. A big woody taste in the finish. Not really what I was expecting. It was alright but not worth the slightly higher than average price if that says anything.

Raspberries smell. Tart. Really strong berry flavor. Dark. Gives chocolate. Interesting.
