COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Envious is a unique beer, a hybrid of many techniques. Its high-gravity malt-fermented base is blended with Michigan pear juice and chardonnay yeast for a second fermentation, before being aged with raspberries and oak. Unlike any style or beer before it, it must be tasted to be appreciated.

Bottle. The pour was a clear medium purplish brown with an average sized (1-2 finger) light brown fizzy head that diminished to a thin layer of residue which created some fair sticky lacing. The aroma was extremely fruity and malty with a light bread malt and a sweet doughy yeast having notes of raspberries, pears, plums and a hint of oak. The taste was sweet, malty and a tad acidic with a mild hint of pears early on with the end being a bit tart and sweet with notes of raspberry, and plums and having a pronounced sour finish. The flavor hung around for a good long while with the taste being mostly of a berry/plum flavor. Mouthfeel was a definite medium in body with a subtle dry texture and a nice prickly carbonation. Overall a fruity, tasty, refreshing brew with just the right amount of malt and tartness.

Bottle with some coworkers. Pours a deep brown with some khaki head and lacing. Fruity nose with some malts. Aromas of Welch’s grape juice, chocolate covered raspberries and cherries, sweet malts. Really light body. Some faint tartness and a some delicate fruit flavors with sweet chocolate malt and brown sugars more prominent. Not bad.

On tap at the bocktown. Way too expepsive! Nice dark pour. but not black. Slight volatile aroma. Odd mild tart commencement. Seems a bit high on the alky. Ropey and leather. Some farmy in there too. Mild co2, very mild. Interesting wine soaked fruit in the background. Unique fer sure.

2011 Bottle. Dark brown pour, a little ring of carbonation and an aroma of sweet pears. Flavor leaves a little more to be desired, muddled malt mixed with old cheap pear cider. Perhaps it was better when it was fresh? Even on clearance for $6, it wasn’t worth it.

Bottle. Pours a somewhat hazy very dark amber with a small head. Nose is rather sweet with some darker fruit elements in there. Taste is also sweet and slightly sticky. Not a huge fan of this.

Cloudy, deep brown with light tan head. Aroma of dark fruits, sugar, fruit roll ups. Lots of fruity/sour/wine notes.

A dark red fruit beer with no head and low carbonation. Notes of raspberry, pear and soft chocolate malt. Low bitterness and moderate sweetness. Watery texture. The flavor starts mild, accumulates nicely, but doesn’t quite get there. Low tartness for the style.

Well, it's interesting. Very fruity. Overwhelming dry cherry and berry taste with oak notes, with no sweetness. The fruity flavor lingers. Can't discern any pear. Ruby red in color. Carbonated, with no head tho. Almost champagne-like in mouthfeel. An interesting experiment, and I salute the brewers for being adventurous, but overall not super successful. Can't say I've tasted anything like it before. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottled. Dark garnet with a thin, bright white head. Syrupy brown sugar, molasses, cherry cordial nose with a moderate amount of alcohol. Flavor is mildly sweet and very mildly sour with a bit of pear flesh, caramels, cherry juice and cardboard. Stale.

2011 Bottling. Pours a clear deep chestnut under a fleeting off-white head. Fresh berry aroma. The flavor is lightly sweet on the front with tart berries coming in at the back along with some alcohol.

Clear deep red beer, short lived pale tan head. Palate is low carbonation and just slightly dry. Raspberry juice that is lightly rounded thanks to the barrelling. Semi dry finish. Disappointing! And where is the pear?
