This beer, aged with Chili de arbol peppers in the barrels, is one of a series of innovative specialties to sneak out of our Dragonís Milk Cellar. The earthy pepper character mingles with the dark roasted tones of the Dragonís Milk as the spice slowly warms your palate, pleasantly contrasting the deep malt character. Pairings red meat, smoked foods, balsamic, rich cheese & dark chocolate.

On tap at the score, Aroma is chocolate and peppers. Taste is bourbon and chocolate up front with some subtle pepper, and then the pepper really kicks in... very nice

22 ounce bottle, 2014 vintage. Served in a DFH snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about a half inch tan head that stuck around a little while. Thereís also a good amount of lacing. The brew smells like chocolate, chilies, roasted malt, oak, vanilla, and some burnt/charred malt. It tastes like chilies, chocolate, burnt/charred malt, dark fruit, oak, vanilla, and a bit of coffee. I like that the chili heat has got a good kick to it, but still doesnít completely overpower the other flavors in this beer. Thereís also a lingering heat from the chilies. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, itís slick and creamy with moderate carbonation. I think this is a good example of a spicy imperial stout, I enjoyed this. $8.99 a bomber.

On tap at Black Squirrelís Michigan beer event during DC Beer Week 2014. Transparent mahogany brown with lots of foamy off white head. Nose has lots of chocolate milk, some malt balls, some licorice, raisins, black pepper. Flavor has some sweetness, some molasses, heavy milk chocolate and then lots of smokey chipotle and burn..... Finishes hot and spicy in the throat.

Bomber from Beer Run, opened 5/22/14. Pours a clear dark brown color with a medium sized fizzy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of chocolate, roast, mild plums, chilies, alcohol. The taste is chocolate, roast, strong peppers with moderate heat, mild caramel and nuts. Medium bodied, low carbonation, lingering heat.

Deep black, opaque, rich foam. Buttery oak, salty caramel, coffee cake, chocolate nose. Distant, mild spiciness. Light hops framed in a bit of wildflower honey. Bourbon still seething and bold, chili peppers hard to find.

The arbol flavor plus dark chocolate has an undeniably pleasant earthy depth to it, but it is almost immediately apparent that the unstoppable strength of the arbolís heat is overwhelming here; maybe toasted anchos or something deeper and less high heat oriented would make this concept more workable. Positively, there are no high acridity vegetable skin notes here.

Thin, but velvety texture, showcasing the the sound malt build of the original without oiliness or excess weight. The heat at the finish is swelling and long, beyond the threshold.

2014 Vintage.
Glass: Tired Hands wine glass.
Appearance: Dang near opaque, but appears a very deep garnet when viewed through the light. The head isnít much and it settles into a light tan coating.
Aroma: The immediate aromas are bourbon, vanilla, oak and a hint of heat from peppers. Caramel and cocoa creep up, caramel being the stronger focus.
Taste: Immediately my tongue meets caramel and vanilla, but almost immediately after a mild to moderate burn of smokey peppers hits my tongue and sticks through to the finish. On a second sip the bourbon and oak is noted, with vanilla and caramel being prominent, hints of cocoa and a strong pepper presence is noted. This doesnít taste much like a stout, but itís good in moderate doses! No sign of booze on this 11% beer.
Palate: Medium thick bodied with mild to moderate carbonation.
Overall: Dang the heat is overwhelming for multiple samples, but this is pretty good. I probably wouldnít buy this again unless it were pared with food, but this is a darn good beer worth buying if seen!

Black with a thin tan head. Aroma is dark chocolate with a very mild fruitiness. Flavor is dark chocolate, very rich with a subtle heat in the finish. Earthy with a balance of sweet and spicy, heat lingers in the finish.

I actually enjoyed this more than I was expecting. Plenty of expected Impy stout smells and flavors, but lots of heat, too. Itís kind of a slow burn, though. There is not a ton of heat right off the bad. A bit of smoke, too. Any way, this was actually pretty enjoyable...

Bottle thanks to Seth. Pours a very dark amber with small beige head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is strong chili pepper, roast, and dark chocolate. Medium mouthfeel with strong roast, chilli pepper, dark chocolate, light heat, very good.
