4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A: Pours black with a finger of tan head that fades into a frothy ring with a little lacing. S: Roasted malts, semi-sweet cocoa, and vanilla dominate with some oak and bourbon aromas underneath. T: Roasted malts here as well with some dark chocolate and vanilla flavors. The oak and bourbon are more present in the flavor with some notes of burnt sugar and caramel. The finish is lightly boozy. M: Medium-thick body with moderate carbonation, this beer is a bit more carbonated and lighter in body than many barrel aged stouts, but it avoids being overly carbonated or too watery. O: An enjoyable beer overall and one of the more underrated stouts out there. It's not really on the same level as the best barrel aged stouts, but it's also a lot more reasonably priced and accessible than most examples.

Smells rich and boozy. Quite a bit of head at first that faded but didnít vanish. Very dark black pour. Thatís got some kick to it. You can really taste the bourbon. Nice and roasty and malty. Very well balanced. Excellent beer.

Oak, vanilla character with notes of chocolate on the aroma. Appearance is a very dark brown with a small tan head. Flavor has a strong vanilla character with notes of oak, chocolate, high fruity esters and expresso. Mouthfeel is medium with medium carbonation. Overall, it's a good tasting bourbon barrel stout. I'd prefer a little less vanilla though.

Sampled from a 12 oz. bottle at the Big Texas Beer Fest. Poured an opaque black with a tan head and lacing. Taste of chocolate milk, vanilla and very subtle roasted malts. Average carbonation, full body, oily texture.
