3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
This beer pours very dark with a small however frothy head. The aroma is dominated by maltiness. The taste is damn good on the front, oaky, bourbon and chocolate in the middle and sickning sweet achocol on the end. I would have enjoyed it better with a slighty lower gravity so i could enjoy the complexity, without getting slapped in the face by the alcohol in the end.

Loads of vanilla. Sweet cream, caramel, oak, malted milk, chocolate and bourbon flavors. Not as thick as others of the style, but great, smooth texture. Underrated in my opinion.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
[Bottle] Pours an opaque black color with very little head and low carbonation. Vanilla, bourbon and bakers chocolate in the nose. Taste is of burnt molasses, mild peat, vanilla, ash and bourbon. OK mouthfeel, kind of oily. The finish seemed a little hot, but other than that this was a pretty good beer. Tasting notes from 2/2014.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle at home picked up somewhere in NYC. Deep ruby-flecked pitch on the pour with a slender beige collar. Aroma of carob, burnt chocolate cake, caramel sauce and custard tinged whiskey. Ridiculous bourbon sweet custard flavour like Young’s Double Chocolate with a slug of Wild Turkey. Slight Baltic salt and ozone, nil alcohol; pure silken oak, decadent and disgusting. I feel dirty.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Black with a quickly dissipating thin mocha head. Aroma is bourbon, oak, vanilla, and roasted malt. The taste follows suit and adds raisin, sweet chocolate, and sugar notes on the back end. The alcohol is present in the aftertaste and adds a warm texture to the taste and feel. Low carb, medium palate. Very good all around but pricey ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I’ve heard a lot about this beer and thought it was a bit pricey where I live. Nothing ventured nothing gained so I tried it and I’d have to say for me it was way to much Bourbon oak flavor. I believe if they took that away it would be am awesome beer. For me if I want to drink Bourbon I will but when I want a top-notch beer I really don’t want it to taste like Bourbon. Just can’t see this as a 98 rating.

Good beer, dark, dark hazy brown color. A roasted vanilla/wood barrel flavor lingers after sipping.
