Dragon’s Milk is a 17th century term used to describe the strong beer usually reserved for royalty. This strong ale was aged in oak for over 120 days. The aging process extracts flavors from the wood, which contribute to its complex character. Hints of bourbon flavor perfectly compliment its roasted malts to produce a beer fit for a King.

UPDATED: JUN 19, 2015 The aroma is roasty with the strong smell of chocolate. It is black with almost no light through it with a brown head. It has a strong alcohol taste, complex flavors with hints of bourbon mixed with chocolate. There is a wood after taste with a bitter finish.

Bottle. Moderate to heavy toasted, dark chocolate and molasses for the malt, light resin, moderate earth, bourbon wood. Head is small, creamy, brown with excellent lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts moderately sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes lightly to moderately sweet and heavily bitter. Palate is full, syrupy, with a soft to lively carbonation and finishes a bit chalky and dry. This is my kind of Imperial Stout, heavy duty flavors and aromas. A slow drinker for sure.

Flaska från whole foods nyc. Svart med beige skum. Doft av choklad och kakor. Mjölkchoklad i smaken med lite ettrig kolsyra.

Bourbon-barrel 11 oz tap. Deep, rich, bourbon backbone. Really nice beer. Thick body, nice head, delicious vanilla/creamy tones.

Aroma of sweet milk chocolates, vanilla and wet wood. Taste is a rather sweet and vanilla accentuated sensation. Dark malts with a smooth aura and in the aftertaste a prominent touch of bourbon mixed with caramelly brown sugars. Great stuff!

11% on tap at BeerNV, and one of the smoothest double digit strength beers I’ve had in a loooong time. Notes of bourbon, oak, vanilla, chocolate, and roasted malt throughout. Velvety feel. Fantastic beer!

Draft at Moriartys. Pitch black poor with a lasting ring of khaki foam. Only a few tiny splashes of lace. Thick silky body. Medium-dark roasted malts. Chocolate liquor. Tannic fruit. Blackberries. Currants. Molasses candies. Vanilla Bourbon. Notable lactose but feels more like a Christmas brew than a Milk Stout. Darkly sweet but finishes mostly warm and spicy. Not very aromatic though, even after it warmed. Flavors are good but not deep. Still a very pleasant, delicate and thoughtful brew that I would certainly have again.

Tap at Yard House, 8th November 15. Pours black. Aroma is rich and bourbon forward. Taste is slick, sweet, like a milk stout, bourbon, some barrel, light wood. Palate fairly thin for the ABV. Good

recent bottle purchase from sline..2015 vintage...pours a fairly jet black..nose is a mixture of wood..bourbon..vanilla and cinnamon..mouthfeel is ok but just doesn’t have enough depth of character for me..comes across more of a milk stout on steroids rather than a proper imperial stout..perhaps some age will allow the bourbon to shine through more..ok though..fairly smooth for the pretty extreme abv..

This robust beer was tasted many time but I refer to the Oak Age 2010 vintage. I like the deep complex wood notes from those bourbon casks. I detected vanilla, caramel notes. Rich but with a bit acid oily mouth-feel the became stronger as the glass warmed. Black in color, opaque in clarity, complex coffee aroma with the black malt. Dragon milk is a heavy body beer with a creamy delicate head. Malt forward and what a kick at I was told is closer to 10% ABV. Yum
