Nephilium (433), Ohio, USA Aug 11, 2007 Starts with a nice aroma of coffee, chocolate, and a touch of oak. It pours a dark (almost black) color, with red visible when held up to a light with a moderate tan head. The flavor is a thick chocolate flavor, with hints of coffee and vanilla, with an oily texture. There is a touch of hop bitterness that hides in the back end, and blends amazingly well with the coffee and chocolate notes. The 9% ABV is amazingly well hidden. This is a very tasty beer, and one that I could sip most nights.
CoachJT (20), Columbia, South Carolina, USA Oct 11, 2008 Draft pout from Flying Saucer. Deep dark, almost ruby brown coloring. Roasted chocolate and coffee aroma. Creamy, silky smooth mouthfeel with roasted malty tastes with hints of oak, vanilla, and a bare glimpse of dark cherry. HInts of bourbon in the finish, what a fantastic beer. LearninBeer (136), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA Oct 11, 2008 Aroma is bread, roasted coffee, chocolate. The head is creamy, light brown, mostly diminishing with good lacing. The color is dark dark brown with a reddish hue. The initial flavor is a little sour, a little bitter, then comes chocolate, roasted caramel coffee. bhensonb (3013), Woodland, California, USA Oct 10, 2008 Bottle from Liquor Max in Loveland, CO. Very dark brown color (some garnet) with a fine, high beige head. Aromas of dark roast malt and chocolate? Also dark stone fruit. Medium plus body with near creamy carbonation. A mild ale partaking of some aspects of stout and porter - like I think I taste coffee. There’s a touch of wood. Finishes towards astringent, with very decent bitter to counteract the malt. Wood seems to bite a bit as time goes on. tzakiel (34), USA Sep 29, 2008 A triumph. A masterpiece of oaky stout. Wonderfully smooth and creamy stout. Perhaps a bit thin tasting, like an english style, just a masterpiece. KnN (313), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA Sep 28, 2008 Poured a nice deep ruby color with a fairly thin off-white head. Aroma was alcohol and caramel, with some malt undertones. Flavor was surprisingly mild. This was a very easy drinker, but the flavor profile was a bit limited.
