JoeM500 (1877), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA Nov 3, 2004 Really missing the strong banana notes in the nose, this was the first obvious thing about this beer. Dark brown with a thin head. Some banana flavors peak out as it warms, the body is decent and some fruity and cereal tastes show up. Off style, buit still a decent beer. Silphium (1981), Lansing, Michigan, USA Sep 1, 2004 On tap at New Holland. Dark chocolate-brown body (porter-like), topped by a thin off-white head. This beer didn’t really seem to fit the style; roasted malt and chocolate were prominent and wheat and yeast notes were sparse. As the beer warmed some of the tangy wheat component became evident and the wisp of banana esters came along with it. More like a wheat porter than a dunkelweizen.
