2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 BiddleBrau (766) - Fort Washington, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 19, 2012
Brown with thin head. Slightly malty, slightly oxidized nose. Bitter, vegetable after taste, hint of chocolate, slightly alcoholic. Bitter chocolate seems to provide the bitter notes I sense. Flavor really not that pleasant. Not something I’d drink more than a sampler of.

Draft at CK. Nose and flavor bring that chili spice and cocoa nib expected from the mole, along with light presence of plum and raisin. Clean, easy on the palate. Decent.

17th July 2010 Clear brown - red beer, short lived white head. Palate starts semi soft but has a crispy edge. Sweet milky malt with a subtle smoky note. Whispers of bubblegum and nuts. Finishes soft and sweet. Low carbonation but a sweet well joined up beer.
3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 DavoleBomb (1382) - Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 21, 2012
Poured into a snifter. 2011 vintage. This gushed on me a bit, but isn’t overcarbonated. This is the second time in as many days that a bottle has done this to me. Not sure what I’m doing wrong.
3.0 A: Clear deep mahogany brown color. Could only muster about a finger of tan head that fell quickly and left no lacing.
4.0 S: Smells as advertised. Chilies give off a spicy vegetal vibe. Big hit of cocoa powder. Nutty and toasty. Grainy and sweet neutral maltiness. Coffee to round things out.
3.5 T: Tastes like it smells, but it doesn’t impress quite as much. Solid chilie presence, which offers more of the taste than the spiciness. Not as much cocoa powder as the nose, but still quite noticeable. Nutty, toasty, grainy with coffee. This is much less malty than I was expecting, but I wouldn’t go as far as to say this is dry.
3.5 M: Medium body. This could use a touch more carbonation and another dose of creaminess. Other than that, it’s good enough here and super smooth.
3.5 D: I’m a sucker for these types of brews. This is a good one, but better ones exist. Still, worth a try.

10 ounce glass at the New Holland brewery. Delicious chile pepper taste and a hot spiciness that goes great with the cocoa ingredients. New Holland does really well with these outlandish recipes, and I encourage them to stay the course. Make more of this stuff and distribute it widely! Also - try combining this with their smoked beer Charkoota Rye: "smoke and fire."

Tap at Pracna. Clear rich red amber pour with a big clingy head. Nose is pepper and cocoa, and so is the taste. Maybe some jalapeño in there too. Fun beer.

Clear copper pour with a beige head and nice retention. A little spotty lace. Aroma is chalked full of bittersweet chocolate and spicy pepper. Coffee and chocolate. Spice shines late.
Decent but when I think mole I think thick and this needed some body
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Bacterial (410) - Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA - MAY 5, 2012
On tap for cinco de mayo at Washington Square. Dark amber pour, malty coffee with a really nice undertone of heat from the chilies. Not too vegetal like these can sometimes get.

Over fizzed bottle but probably caused by the drive home, so I won’t hold hold it against the beer. Great aroma, malt sweetness, coca, hint of caramelized sugars, smells a bit sweet. No head on the pout, study steady fizz coming from the bottle of the glass. Dark amber to brown in color. Wonderfully complex taste, coca, heat from the alcohol, spice and just a hint of heat from the dried chilies. Great sipping beer.

On draft at the Wine Tap. Pours a headless deep amber. Aroma is a faint cocoa. Taste is caramelly sweet malt, cocoa and a distinct pepperiness. Well balanced and very good. Usually not a fan of the cocoa/chocolate additions to beer, but this stuff is not dominant, and not is the ABV. An excellent sipping brew.
