| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 23, 2007 Bottle; poured an amber orange with small to medium, off white, creamy head. Aroma was very good with sugar, fruit, caramel. Palate was nice, slightly sticky and creamy. Flavor had a decent hop presence; besides, flavor was similar to the aroma. A nice sweetness too. Alcohol well hidden, enjoyable beer. 17thfloor (1456), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Strong aroma, sweet like a cherry candycane. Palate is viscous with some carbonation, very heavy for this style. Flavor is overloading like the aroma... really it tastes like a cherry candycane... i really have no idea how to rate this... an experience... definitely something different... The aroma is slightly hoppy giving it a flowery touch. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of caramel, and a light citrusy hoppy note. hophead75 (1954), Boonton, New Jersey, USA

Amber in color with a small off white head, bottle had been sitting out awhile before I got the opportunity to try this. Aroma is alot of caramel and toffee, you can almost smell the stickyness from the malts, with a moderate amount of citrus. Taste is alot of sweet base and caramel specialty malts, with plenty of citrus hop flavor in the background. Bitterness is mild initially, becomes more moderate. Finishes with some alcohol and a moderate piney bitterness. Body is very full, texture lightly syrupy. I read the other reviews and I can see how people see this as somewhat one-dimensional, but it is a dimension that I personally liked. joergen (8523), Frederiksberg, Denmark

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Aug 20, 2007 Bottle (22oz) shared with HogTownHarry, GregClow, mds & tupalev -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a clear golden-orange with an average size diminishing off-white head. Aroma: Holy moly, I do not like this! What’s in there, V8? There’s sweet malt, hops and alcohol, almost barley Wine-like but with some weird veggie element added. Ugh. Flavour’s much better, it’s similar to the aroma but that odd veggie element is not as pronounced -- it’s sweet with quite a bit of alcohol and finish that’s pretty bitter. Medium bodied. I wasn’t crazy about this at all, I’m sure it’s well made enough so I won’t be too harsh but it’s not to my liking. nhorween (639), Chicago, Illinois, USA

I had this a few days ago and I’m shocked to see this labeled as a barley wine, it’s totally a DIPA. Hoppy piney aroma, with less sweetness up front than usual, which is maybe why it could be considered a barley wine. Alcohol is apparent in the flavor and aroma, but it works. Great, big bitter finsih. I liked it.
