3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Transfer from BA review on 8-13-12-
Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass
Appearance – Served a hazy orange color with a white head. The head faded over a moderate amount of time to leave a lighter level of lacing.
Smell – Standard Belgian style IPA with a good dose of biscuit, banana, and yeast. Mixed with these aromas are lighter aromas of pepper and a grassy like smell.
Taste – The flavor starts out more heavily of citrus and tropical fruit. A somewhat bitter orange and lemon hoppiness are mixed with banana, pineapple and mango. Along with these at the start, is a yeasty taste. As the flavor advances some of the spicy and peppery notes that were detected in the nose come to the tongue. A grassy and pine hop flavor then enter the taste along with a upsergance of the yeasty flavors to in the end leave a bitter yeast cake flavor left on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the light to medium side with the carbonation level being on the higher side. The carbonation is very fitting for the style and very nicely excites the tongue in light of all the bitter flavors.
Overall – Very enjoyable overall with some nice flavor transitions and a good feel.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Foil wrapped, 22oz bottle. Vintage 2013. Orange-amber color, white foam. Hop aroma, floral. Nice bready funk nose. Funk flavor. Barn, grains, & floral hops. Finishes with yeast flavors of barn cobwebs, old hay, loads of herbal hops. Very complex & true to style. Maybe the most layered of all the Hatters I’ve had. (4113)

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a copper color with a light white head. Has a citrus and hoppy aroma, with a bit of what must be the farmhouse funk. Flavor is citrus, spice, and lots of bitterness. Very good.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours with a large, off white head. It has fruity flavors of which it resembles apricot. There are other hops and a sweet, doughy aroma. It is a hazy, orange color. The yeast is predominate in the taste with some earthly and basement flavors. It is excellent on the way down with the complex flavors.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
650 ml. 2013 vintage. Hazy burnt orange with a huge, rocky foam. Nose of funky toffee, earthy grape must and a touch of vinegar. Taste is toffee with a bit of toasted walnut and tart lemon juice. Finish has some grassy, wooden hop. Near-medium body is balanced with a light astringency and a medium-high carbonation.

Nice Belgian ale flavor. Not much hop flavor for an IPA (even for a Belgian one.) Nice spicy finish.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
bomber (2013 vintage) - we’ll see how the IPA portion holds up. Poured into the one and only St. Bernardus Watou slightly crooked Trappist glass. Nose is fruity esters and old hay. Sip adds black pepper, and just like Unibroue beers, I am having a hard time describing the flavors. I like the flavors and funky (from the label) is close. A tad sweet and somewhat bitter. Makes for a unique apéritif, but I’m not having any of the suggestions from the label. Before I add the rating, didn’t pick up on the IPA. Would be interested in trying a fresher batch.
