Pours a slightly hazy orange with a tall, chunky beige head that has great retention and leaves really nice lacing. Aroma is starts off with an awesome mix of floral, acidic-fruity, spicy, tropical and citrus hops, light funk, dusty grain, apples, stone fruit and a little wet leaves. Flavor is slightly less impressive(maybe not...), but still pretty nice. cereal grain, dust, mineral notes, light funk, hay and floral, citrus, acidic, fruity, light tropical and spicy hops. Palate is light bodied, off dry, and just a hair chalky and acidic throughout with a light to medium and somewhat sharp carbonation. Really good stuff, at first I was a little disappointed by the lack of intensity in the flavor, especially on the hop side, but it grew on me after a few sips. The lack of intensity was blown over by a nicely refreshing, tasty and not in any way overbearing Pale Ale. I really love the hop blend.

Smells remarkably like floral soap. Don’t know whether this odor is good or bad. Tally ho! After a slew of subpar beers, a surprise helps turn things around! Farmhouse Hatter is quite the interesting beer, not a stunner, but with enough curiosities to keep me occupied for a while. It pours with the best of them, a gorgeous gold with a huge, fluffy white head that leaves lace with reckless abandon. Tastes solid, with more of a Belgian slant than that of a strong American IPA. The soap thing comes through, but the finish is bitter and yeasty and with a slowly evolving tang. Like I said, curious, and not in a bad way.

Bottle… Hazy orange ale with a huge, rocky, white head. Fantastic retention. The uber fruity aroma is quite simply a terrific medley of tropical and fuzzy fruits. Medium-bodied with modest carbonation. Outstanding balance is provided by equal amounts of fruity bitterness, sweet maltiness and fruity-bready yeastiness. Just a touch of saison yeast spiciness here. Finishes lightly fruity with lingering, gentle bitterness. Bottle courtesy of dmschefke!

5000 (5000) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - APR 21, 2012
Bottle:   Dirty caramel, huge pillowy sandy head, very sticky lacing.   Almost seems infected, but thinking its not.   Barnish nose, faint citrus and floral notes.   Not much hops, well at least in terms of an IPA.   Seems like a funky Belgian Pale.   Barnish and musty on the tongue, a touch tart, a little dry, soft citrus peel and earthy floral notes.   Hops are minor.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate.   Backside shows a bit more in the way of hop bitterness.   Soft mustiness and citrus rind lingers.   Fairly entertaining I must say, although not as bright as the nose suggested.   Thanks for the bottle Kevin!
