2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Tasted on 4/10/14 from a capped 12oz bottle purchased at Craft Brewed. Pours hazy bronze with an average white head that slowly recedes to average lace with a touch of sticky lace along the inside of the glass. The nose is doesn’t have a whole lot going on with more malty bread than anything with just a touch of grassy green hops on the back. The flavor is the same non-descript light malty bread with a touch of bitterness on the grassy hops. The body is just under medium with average carbonation and a medium malty bread and somewhat bitter grassy hops finish.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle at home. Yellowish golden pour with an enormous white head. Crackery aroma with hay and fresh grass. Light bodied with obvious high carbonation. Saaz hop flavor in the forefront. Light lemon and a grassy, crisp, finish. Lacks that smooth fat roundness of a true Kolsch (or a decent American Kolsch style). This is pilsnerish.

Kolsh is not my favorite style so this beer is not that good, to me. Very bready and slightly sweet. I could see this might be refreshing on a hot as hell day though. Not my bag of tea.

Pour on tap at Crunchy’s, clear golden pour with white head, aroma brought notes of bread, biscuit, dough into some grass, slight hay. Taste was a mix of grass, bread, dough into some yeast, spice, hay, finishing slightly bitter. Decent.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
The idea of making a Kolsch with a single malt and a single hop is intriguing, but the execution is strange. The Pilsen malt imparts an odd graininess in this form and the Saaz hop appearance is... odd. The hop note isn’t very bitter but it almost seems musty. It takes time to get accustomed to it. While I’m okay with style deviation, I found myself missing a smooth, light malt body and a crisp, clean hop note. On a more positive note, this beer is beautiful to look at. It’s cloudy and not quite straw-colored. The head is phenomenal. Full Circle’s got a pretty face and nice ideas. That’s a start, at least.
