COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Michigan grown hops are the story in this seasonal harvest ale. Hopivore is wet-hopped with hops added to the brew just hours after harvest, creating rare, fresh flavors.

On tap at the mad mex robinson. A little darker than a pale lager. Very little head. Hoppy fer sure but seems to be a little more refined than your typical IPA. I would have said it really does not get into IPA territiry until the finsh, where the bitterness starts to build. Yes, except for the finish, this is a pretty mild and refined IPA.

From back in November. I have high hopes for the future of Michigan hops and hop growing. The climate and latitude are well suited to hop production, particularly in the northern parts of the Lower Peninsula in the cherry growing section of the state (hello Traverse City!). This beer is probably miscast as an IPA: the hops used did not impart any kind of citrus or floral elements. Perhaps a little pine, certainly some earthiness, but nothing that I was expecting, which led to disappointment. It wasn’t a bad looking beer at all, but just underwhelming on the whole. I would be interested to see how this beer could change over the next decade or longer as Michigan hops continue to evolve and hopefully catch up with other hop-growing parts of the country.

I don’t really get an aroma. Color is a light copper, and the beer is clear. Head laces to edge. First taste is a sharp hop flavor. Body is somewhat thin. The hop flavor never develops until the aftertaste kicks in. Somewhat of a disappointment

Mild hop malt aroma. Strongly tingly start to finish. Strong hop palate. Strong hop flavor. Very nice balanced hoppy brew.

Bottle: The aroma consists of caramel, fruit, and light grass. It pours transparent amber with a touch of haze and a one finger off-white head that quickly fades to a thin film outline by a thicker ring. There is some spotty lacing left behind. The flavor starts with light-moderate fruit with light caramel. The finish has some very mild citrus hops with light grass notes. It’s medium bodied with with mild carbonation. Overall...it’s flat out not hoppy enough for my IPA preferences and a far cry from anything that I would associate as wet hopped.

Pours a coppery, reddish-brown with mid-sized head. Not quite as pronounced in bitterness as your typical IPA. This was kind of muted as far as the pine/citrus thing I’d generally expect from most IPAs.

Pour is a dark orange with a small white head. Aroma is minimal hops but there is this burnt smell there that takes over. Flavor is slightly hoppy with a sweet malt base. Any flavor is gone after the swallow. Not the best effort by this brewer.

Rare, fresh flavors is right, but just not the rare tastes I was looking for. The hops are very bitter, but doesn’t leave a horrible after taste. Good up front, but not very desirable much after the initial taste. The aroma is not very good either.

[4127-20111113] 12floz bottle. Grainy peat malt aroma. Clear, amber orange body with a quick creamy white head. More bitter grainy resin malt in the flavour. Medium body. Lots of bitter, not a lot of flavour. (6/3/6/3/14) 3.2

Bottled. Poured fiery reddish-brown with a short-lived off-white head.. nice color, but the head/lacing looked messy in the glass. The aroma picked up sweet caramel and honey with juicy earth and pine hoppage around.. not exciting by any means, but it was aiight. The flavor found the same sweet sugars at the core, and added some medium-skinned fruits.. resiny bitterness surrounded, mostly citrus and pine.. residual sugars and nondescript bitterness on the finish. Medium-bodied with a syrupy feel from the malts.. moderate, persistent bitterness throughout.. dried out and fell off the palate fast on the finish.. OK overall feel and flow.
