COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ichabod combines malted barley and real pumpkin with cinnamon and nutmeg in a delicious and inviting brew. A rewarding complement to many dishes, Ichabod pairs well with autumnal foods such as poultry and root vegetables. After dinner, try it with your favorite dessert!

12oz bottle poured into snifter. So I’ve been hunting down pumpkin beers early this year and landed this one in a trade. Always jazzed to try a new pumpkin beer. This had very similar qualities to others, like Pumpkinhead etc. I wasn’t blown away by the aroma/flavor but it was still nice to try a new one.

A clear, reddish brown beer with hardly any head at all. The aroma is a combination of sweet malt and Big Red chewing gum. The flavor is watery with some spice in the middle and a warming cinnamon in the finish. Just not very enjoyable.

Poured from a bottle. Appearance is a translucent amber with a thick, fluffy beige head of foam. Aroma is pumpkin spices, pumpkin pie filling, graham crackers, and clove. Taste is quite as nice as the aroma leads on, but still the pumpkin pie filling and graham cracker come through. Its a touch too vegetal in my opinion, but once the initial sip gives way to the finish, its nice graham cracker taste. I had a little higher hopes for my first pumpkin beer of the season. Oh well, on to the next one.

Run of the mill pumpkin ale. Pours light brown with a weak fizzy off white head. Aroma is rife with cinnamon and nutmeg. Earthy bitter fade. Malt backbone stands up well to the spices.

Draft pours a beautiful amber with thin tan head. Aroma of breaded malts, nutmeg, and spices. Flavor dominated by pumpkin, nutmeg, cinnamon, and other spices. One of the better pumpkin ales I’ve tasted.

UPDATED: SEP 1, 2011 Pours a clear red/brown. Nose of pumpkin, spice, clove. Low carbonation. Taste of pumpkin, cinnamon, graham cracker crust and hops. Sweet start with a bitter finish. Too much hop for a pumpkin beer. There is a definite pumpkin pie undertone but I feel it is drowned out by the hop.

Pumpkin and spice aromas. Cinnamon, nutmeg, hop and pumpkin flavors. Overall an above average pumpkin.

Reviewed from notes. Pours an orangish brown with a light head. Nose brings a good dose of slicing with cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove. Mild pumpkin. The taste and feel are really both quite tainted by an excessive amount of spicing in comparison to anything else that is going on. In the end, this was just taken too far in one direction and there is no balance to this beer. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 10-29-2010
