A robust renovation of the India Pale Ale. Assertive dry-hoppying provides an aromatic telltale nose, indicative of the bitter symphony to follow. Bold hop character with lively grapefruit and citrus notes. 20į Plato, Alc. 9.4% by Vol.

Sample at Hopfest 2014. Comes reddish gold with a small white head. Aroma of citrus, pine, and malt. Taste is grapefruit, pine, malt, and caramel. Pretty decent, but nothing too special.

Aged almost 1 year (2013 vintage): This looks almost exactly like the Mad Hatter IPA, but itís just a hair brighter. Burnt orange, with an obvious amount of caramelized malt content, it has a frothy, off-white head and modest, but healthy, carbonation. It has a pleasant, softly sweet aroma if caramel malts and some grassy, hay-like hops notes. Once in the mouth itís all about bitterness, with a bitter stab in the tongue taking first shot, followed by a combination of alcohol and residual sugars. A bitter finish ends the beer with a heavy mouthfeel, making me wonder if maybe this would have been better fresh. Perhaps I shouldnít have (accidentally) aged this beer, even if for just shy of a year. I have no problems with bitterness, but this is just a smidge uncomfortable. Perhaps the aging threw off the balance, perhaps a fine one, which may have been what may have corrected this beer enough to give it so many thumbs up in the craft beer community. The grapefruit flavors arenít obvious, and at this age the only thing thatís reminiscent, to me, of grapefruit is a little touch of waxy rind in the finish. Also, this isnít a thin-bodied IPA at all. Thereís a heft to this beer, a thick, caramel-laden body that makes it pretty chewy. Who knows what this could have tasted like under a different fermentation.

Lots of citrus peel, crisp apples and caramel. Grapefruit and toasted bread undertones. Hints of peppercorns. Alcohol well blended.

Clearish amber color with a big tan head. Citrusy aroma of oranges and grapefruit with notes of sweet malt. Citrusy hop flavor up front, giving way to a vodka astringency and bready malt before the bitter finish. Not bad

Poured from a bottle with a hazy copper color and a decently foamy white head. Has an okay pine aroma. Taste begins with a sweet citrus flavor before turning into a dry pine flavor towards the end. There is a light amount of hops for an imperial IPA, and even the flavor is lighter than Iíd expect. This is a decent beer overall, but not a great imperial IPA. I prefer New Hollandís Mad Hatter to this.

Poured cloudy copper color from 12 oz bottle. Aroma is caramel sweetness with little hop scent. Taste is like eating caramel candies, butterscotch mixed with pungent hops. Palate is medium and finish is dry. Overall a unique tasting iipa. I prefer citrus and more bitter tastes in a iipa but that being said a decent brew.

Rated on 6-01-2010 (Bottle) When poured, this beer has a small ivory head with a short retention, hazy amber body, fast rising carbonation, and a fair amount of lacing. The aroma is caramel malt, bitter and grapefruit. The taste is heavily bitter, caramel malt, citrus, and grapefruit. The palate is tingly and this beer is medium bodied. I enjoy the way the hops come together in the aroma as well as in the flavor. A very good beer, worth trying and a beer I would drink again.

Tap at Buckeye from 18 Jan 14, taste is old, not well hopped honestly prefer the other hatters, even the white hatter is better than this.. apparently the beer doesnt scale well, though buckeyes serving probably doesnt help

Not my favorite IPA. Its more of just an ale than an IPA. Doesnt have the strong citrusy hoppiness.
