A robust renovation of the India Pale Ale. Assertive dry-hoppying provides an aromatic telltale nose, indicative of the bitter symphony to follow. Bold hop character with lively grapefruit and citrus notes. 20į Plato, Alc. 9.4% by Vol.

Pours copper with an off-white smallish head. The aroma has lots of floral hops with some funk and is balanced with lots of creamy caramel malt. Thick body with a good amount of semi-soft carbonation. The flavor starts much like the aroma with even more malt - seems like like and IIPA and more like a barleywine. There is some sourness in there as well. The beer gets hotter as it warms up. A fair IIPA.

Copper colored pour with a small, frothy, white head. Piny, resinous, grapefruit aroma with a nice toffee, toast, and caramel balance. The flavor is lots of very fresh hops lending to a luscious pine, orange, and ruby grapefruit flavor with a great toasty caramel malt background and a hint of cherry. Very nicely balanced. A bit of floralness comes out on the finish too. This is a very refreshing double IPA in that itís not cloying like so many can be yet still has a nice assertive hop profile without going overboard. The body is full and creamy with gentle carbonation.

22 ounce bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear reddish amber color with a medium head. Decent head retention and lacing. Nice floral hop aroma with citrus and berry notes. Taste is very fruity with citrus, plum and berry notes as well as bitter resiny notes throughout. Medium-full bodied. Two consecutive New Holland beers that didnít disappoint... Iím shocked!

Without being overbearing, a nice flavorful IPA that one ups the regular Mad Hatter. Lacking intensity of many Imperial IPAs and that is a good thing. Tasty.

Strykzone (4479) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - JUL 13, 2009
A copper colored beer with a large fluffy tan head. Lots of unique tiny bubbles rise to the surface. Thick, sticky lacing. Nose is grapefruit dominated with lesser amounts of caramel. This brewer threw a strike with this beer and it is down the middle and very hittable. It is in style and tasty. Full of hops with plenty of citrus, and tons of pine flavors. Gobs of sweetness. Some wood and spice. Nice bitterness. Still, nothing here is huge and is even understated, including the alcohol. That makes this DIPA very easy to drink.

Hazy amber pour with pillowy off white head. Faint citrus, but mostly caramel malts on the nose. Grapefruit, light citrus and sweet malts. Slightly doughy, warm finish. Not as resinous as I hoped for the style or for my tastes.

22oz from Samís, Durham. Faintly cloudy amber pour with a modest head. Some smooth malts in the aroma, but itís mostly grassy - and fairly indistinct - hops. Nice full mouthfeel, even if the finish isnít quite as long as youíd like. Flavor isnít particularly complex, without the liveliness of a fresh beer in this style. But overall a pretty decent DIPA.

Tap at Capones. Pours a hazy copper with golden notes and a large foamy/creamy off white head that laced. Aroma of caramel malt with some fruity, citrus and floral hop notes. Aroma if light. Flavor has a lot of caramel, nuts, toasted malt and some piney, grapefruit and floral hop flavor. Also getting some tobacco notes. Bitterness is moderate and mouthfeel is lightly sweet.

pineypower (2402) - Pine Barrens, New Jersey, USA - JUL 9, 2009
Tap at Caponeís. Pours out a mostly clear copper with a small white lacing head. Aroma of sticky floral and citrus hops, and a slight caramel malt/sweetness going on also. Taste is well balanced, citrus, grapefruit and pine hops, sweet caramel malts, with a dry and ever so lightly boozy finish, but definitely not telling of the 9.4%.

22 ozíer ... A nice bright orange-red beer with a sticky top. The aroma is bright and citrusy and thick, but this drinks with a surprising mellowness, while still delivering a big hop component over a solid malt base. Delicious! (#3579, 7/10/2009)
