3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark unclear orange with white splashy lace. Smell is citrus and equal parts caramel malts. Taste is fruity, citrus, heavy caramel malts, booze. A hint earthy/oaky as well. Ok.

UPDATED: JAN 8, 2014 Bottle from umich43jm, thanks! Pours amber gold with a huge clingy off white head. Aroma of bread grass and citrus. Sweet caramel malt backbone with grassy floral hop. Nice.

Had this one on tap at Yogi's in Bloomington. Strong citrusy hop flavor hits you in the beginning and tappers off to a smooth malty body. Not a strong aftertaste, and that would be my only knock on this beer. A quality imperial IPA for sure though n

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Poured from a bottle cloudy amber with moderate white head that diminished rapidly. Initial hop bite fades toward the back of the tongue. Hop is predominate flavor but there is some caramel malt that lingers. Surprisingly subtle for a beer hyped as way hopped. Pretty good stuff.

I thought I might like this one because I am a fan of the regular Hatter IPA. But this version seemed a little forced. A cheap alcohol flavor. Much rather have the non imperial.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Amber color with a thin white head. Aroma is a little sweet, with a little bit of vanilla. Flavor is very sweet with a bit of vanilla oak. Some pine hops are in there, but they’re a bit overwhelmed.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap. Clear copper with off white head and good lacing. Aroma is subdued - piney hops and caramel malt. Taste is bitter as you would suspect, but balanced by plenty of caramel malt. Mouthfeel is a little chewy/foamy. A good, but not spectacular DIPA.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle into a pint glass.
Pours a clear medium copper with a one finger off-white head. Really good head retention but just ok lacing.
The aroma is a little weak on this one. A nice tropical fruit note with some tangerine and pineapple along with just a touch of grape. Maybe just a little bit of toast from the malt.
The flavor picks up more on these fruity characteristics and there is more Earth than in the aroma. A little dankness comes through too. Some caramel and toast from the malt along with a whiff of alcohol. A fairly thick mouthfeel along with a sticky finish.
Overall, a decent IIPA but it is still fairly run of the mill. Glad I picked it up but it is probably not something I would pick up again.
