TexasAggie12 (64), Burnet, Texas, USA Feb 23, 2006 Very dark colored beer. Thin head and a aroma of malt and nuts. The flavor was good with a hint of sweet malt and nuts, maybe a touch of chocolate, and nice hoppy finish. Really ingulfs the mouth when drinking this semi thick brew. garrad (3), USA does not count Apr 5, 2005 really not that good. Ive had much better. like......miller high life to be exact. Silphium (2017), Lansing, Michigan, USA Nov 29, 2004 On tap at New Holland. Deep sanguine red-brown body (probably the darkest brown ale I’ve tried), thin off-white head. Light aroma (I hate it when brewpubs serve their beers too cold), grainy and toasty/nutty. Flavor was very chocolatey and nutty with some raosted toasty aspects, kind of winey/grapey and woody. Has a tannin-heavy mouthfeel that coats the mouth. Just a touch of dark fruits before the long, roasted bitter finish. JoeM500 (1877), Chicago (little italy), Illinois, USA Nov 3, 2004 Dark pint, from brewpub tapper. Light nutty nose and some bitterness. First taste is faint with coffee, hazlenut and cream. Fluffy body, and taste is decent enough to enjoy a full pint of. raindog (525), Evansville, Indiana, USA Jul 2, 2003 Dark brown, with a decent, khaki head.
