3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Smells like a recently felled pine tree. The hops are bitter enough to make you cringe at the first few sips, but then you can settle in and enjoy one. I really prefer the Imperial Hatter, that one has heavy alcohol and some sweetness to balance out the hops.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Having Citra, Centennial, and Cascade all in one place makes me happy. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting to enjoy Mad Hatter as much as I did. In the Midwestern beer Mecca that is Michigan (I was probably obnoxious with my M-alliteration there). Mad Hatter tends to fly under the radar. That’s really too bad. That sexy hop profile and the generous malt bill make Mad Hatter a smart, balanced attack. Aroma of tropical fruits, pine needles, flowers, and grass. Flavor has the same good stuff - it’s dank but also juicy. Mouthfeel is crisp but the lingering stickiness has more sweetness than resin. There’s just enough malt to add a bit of toasted cracker to the taste mix. So far, I’ve really liked all the Hatters. Here’s to continued madness.

Bottle share at GBBF 2015, thanks to James. Hazy dirty orange, still, small white head, full lacing. Aroma is pithy orange, rosewater, caramel. Body is medium, tingly carbonation, smooth. Taste is pithy orange, grassy with a dry finish. Decent IPA.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Light copper color. Great hoppy nose with nice pine, citrus, and floral elements, some sweet caramel. Taste follows, a bit malty for me, but not over the top.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Brook Falls Discount - how have I not rated before?
Orangey pour with a ring of a white head leaving some spotty lace.
Aroma has floral hops, light fruits and pine. Taste is of sweet
caramel, some pine and some fruitiness. Medium bodied without much
alcohol presence. Perhaps a touch lowly carbonated. Finishes heavily
to the sweet side of bittersweet. Shrug? Have had over the years
many times, and between Founders Centennial and this one, these bigger
SW Mich brewers need to get a good West Coast IPA. Centennial is solid
and old-style, but not made for an IPA in this century. 13.2

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from SB.
Golden colour, just a slight slight haze, medium white frothy head.
Sweet hoppy aroma with honey caramel and flowers, peach, mango, pine, cookies and some alcohol warmth.
Taste is also honey sweet and hoppy with vanilla crackers, citrus, peach, mango and pine needles. It’s pretty balanced and drinkable, despite some alcohol bite and heavy bitterness.
Medium to bigger body, soft carb, oily texture.
Nice. I like it. Well executed and quite drinkable.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle at GBBF 2015. Cheers James. It pours lightly hazy amber with a decent white head. The nose is bitter-sweet, toasted grass, grapefruit, creaminess and custard apple. The taste is crisp, bitter, earthy, toasted grass, cereal, minerals, grapefruit, floral and light spice with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Crisp and easy-going. Comes together quite nicely.
