Saisons are still one of the oddest beers I’ve had, they are all very different. The one thing you definitely notice is that there is a funky, off-taste like a very weird and over-ripe fruit mixed in among the typical beer tastes, but it actually goes together pretty well. I bought this one due to my love of monkeys and monkey kings, but I would get it again based on merit.

Pour cloudy with a lot of head. A nice taste of hops but a little too bitter. Overall a decent ale.

Standard, middle of the road, not over the top are the kind of adjectives I’d give to this saison. Aroma is some banana and wheat like esters. Taste is somewhat sweet, some wheat, faint spice and banana notes. Finish is very clean.

Clear brilliant golden with a thin white foamy cap. Nice grainy and slightly bubblegumy/banana nose and a wee Belgian barn semisweet bit. Good full flavor that’s like the nose; a bit sweet, a bit grainy and toast like, a bit of banana and wheat and Belgian barn eaters. A bit standard and Americanized but very clean and tasty.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy/fizzy, white, mostly/fully diminishing. Body is light to medium yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (grain), lightly hoppy (lemon oil, herbs), lightly to moderately yeasty (basement/mold), with notes of cement, apple skin, grains of paradise, candy sugar. Flavor is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter, unclean. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. A particularly phenolic example, and a bland, thin, watery, and dirty one at that. Peppery note seems like an adjunct (grains of paradise-ish), but I could be wrong. Not enjoyable in any way.

from Mondial de la Bière 2013, Mulhouse - pretty clear bronze beer under a long lasting white foam; fruity and piney hoppiness with notes of pears, almonds and yeast; sweet and rounded; a good malt backbone, light sourish and quite bitter, dry and long yeasty fruity and flowery finish

The Monkey King pours a mostly clear light golden yellow with a thick ivory head that lasts a long while. The aroma is fresh bread with some lighter citrus fruit. The flavor is light citrus fruit, bread and a bit of caramel. Overall this is a decent beer.

A better than average saison. Sweet with some tropical aroma, pepper and lemon on the tongue and some bubblegum finish.

Serving: Bottle from State Line Liquors. It pours a slightly hazy gold with a small head. Fruity nose with notes of peach, apricot, and pear. Hay, apricot, and white pepper flavors. Light body with a dry finish. Decent.

Hazy yellow with a fruity and musty nose. Flavor is a touch sweet, but not to bad. Fruity (sweet citrus, melon, fleshy fruit), musty, a touch of pepper, spice; I don’t care for the finish. Medium light to medium body, decent level of carbonation. Just fair overall.

Bottle @ home, picked up at Wilbur’s and shared with LeninCat. Gl ass to mouth. Pours a bit hazy, golden orange appearance with an off white head. Potpourri, bubble gum, white pepper, tropical fruits, and lemon zest in the nose. Quite a bit going on in the aroma. Medium body. Somewhat sweet. Banana, pear, bubblegum, and mango flavors. A bit gooey. Lightly spicy. Some banana in the aftertaste. Body is a little gooey and the esters are a bit heavy. Ok. LeninCat ticked this @ 3/5.
