3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Drank from a bottle at the 20th Mondial de la BiŤre, June 1, 2013. Pale blonde, thin head. Aroma of spicy wheat and barley, slightly sweet. Taste very dry wheat, a little spicy, slightly bitter. This is not the king of savory saison.

2.5 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle: Cloudy yellow, dull golden body with a wispy white crown that quickly fizzles down to almost nothingness. Aroma of some aberrant, chalky yeast notes. Nebulous. Kind of... "off"? Some Belgian-esque spices, quite heavy; clove, coriander, slight gummy notes. Very mild banana & apple skin esters with a cotton-like funky aspect. Taste is full of yeast & full of bread. Heavy, heavy yeast & bread flavors. Very light undertones of apples & overripe banana mush. Mid-palate to back-end has a large funk to it. Musty barnyard, wet wood, & old hay with a heavily musky & slightly funky cheese rind aftertaste. Damp cellar floor, almost cotton-y. Some pungent, earthy & dirty hop notes lend to a slight bitter tingle, combining with the saison yeast for a super-dry finish. This probably isnít as bad as my review makes it sound, but it was just kind of... Weird. Hard to explain. Itís not awful, but it isnít a very good or well put together saison, either.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a cloudy straw, good carbonation and a grainy foam head. Very nice and traditional saison yeast aroma, complex in its yeasty floral and citrus notes. Very pleasant floral and citrus up front, with bright citrus middle and yeasty end. Mostly clean mouthfeel with a little sticky residue. Very good!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12oz bottle. Pours a very light golden yellow with a head that quickly diminished to nothing. Aroma is sweetly spiced. Everything smells harmonious and attractive. Flavor is much like the aroma with a noticeable sweetness. Grassy spiciness, and clean fruity finish. Polished and very easy to drink, but lacking the complexity and funkiness I want in a saison.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
12oz bottle into a tulip.
Pours a slightly hazy medium gold with a very fluffy two finger white head but unfortunately it is very quick to fade away leaving just a small ring of lacing around the sides of the glass.
Aroma is spicy as a Saison should be with peach and orange peel along with a bit of pepper. It is a little limp, though, and one dimensional.
The flavor carries the peach notes over from the aroma along with the Belgian spiciness. A little more in the way of citrus juiciness and less spice along with light bread. The mouthfeel is where this beer tends to be lackluster. It is not real crisp and dry like a good Saison should be. A bit too oily and sticky on the finish.
Overall, while this beer canít stand up to some of the better Belgian examples of the style, it is decent and priced nicely. I am a huge fan of the style and this makes for an affordable go-to beer.
