Drank from a bottle at the 20th Mondial de la Bière, June 1, 2013. Pale blonde, thin head. Aroma of spicy wheat and barley, slightly sweet. Taste very dry wheat, a little spicy, slightly bitter. This is not the king of savory saison.

12oz bottle to tulip. Pours hazy gold orange, sudsy white head, effervescent bubbles. Aroma of banana, clove, white pepper, green apple. Taste of same with a little cardboard in finish. Might be an old bottle.

Cloudy golden appearance with a small white head and little lacing. Spicy, yeasty aroma dotted with biscuits and crackers. Flavors of soft fruit, spices and hornbill dust. Crisp, dry aftertaste. Grainy, medium bodied mouthfeel with an average length finish.

Aroma is permanent marker, banana, clove. Appearance is gold, white head. Taste is funk, banana, clove, not good. Mouthfeel is medium, carbonation is crisp. Overall, not a fan of the style at all.

Pours a slightly hazy light yellow golden color with white head. Bread, yeast, and some light cloves on the nose; follows onto the palate. Light bodied. Finishes with banana and some bread.

MK’s aroma offers an unusual combination of bread dough and wet leaves, pepper and oranges. Unfortunately, the aromas don’t sort themselves out in the taste and you’ve got peppery oranges. Poured from a bottle.

Monkey King has some nice flavors from the fruity, peppery yeast strains. For my personal tastes, though, I like Saisons that are complex, funky, and/or brazenly innovative. Monkey King doesn’t quite fit in any of those categories, but it’s a decent refreshing Saison all the same.

Bottle/Fest. A- Citrus, pepper, yeasty, wheat. A- Amber color, hazy liquid, white head. T- Citrus, wheat, spices. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, smooth finish. O- Before having this and knowing what it was I thought maybe it was just a slightly off IPA or Pale Ale. It’s okay.

FROTHINGSLOSH (5965) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 17, 2015
Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy yellow color with an enormous fluffy yellow-white head that lingered forever and left exceptional lacing. The aroma was tart, citric, chalky and had a bit of perfume. The flavor was tart citrus and perfume with a dry chalky undertone and a hints of bread and honey. Medium length finish. Medium body but overcarbonated.
