| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 30, 2008 22 oz bottle. Pours pitch black body with a one finger creamy brown head that fell to a thin wispy film. The nose is intensely roasty and very sweet with some dark fruits, coffee, dry yeast, licorice, and a touch of alcohol. The flavor is over roasted with lots of malt astringency and a bit of an acrid bite. Some chocolate and dark fruits on the back end. Noticeable but not overpowering alcohol. Mouthfeel is full bodied and oily in texture with soft light carbonation. Lingering sticky burnt malt finish. Just big and over done with not a whole lot of complexity or subtlety. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 26, 2008 Pours jet black with a small creamy tan head. Aroma is very rich chocolate and coffee with a nice nuttiness and some vanilla bean notes. Flavor starts with a huge dose of chocolate syrupy malted sugar. Picks up some creamy dark fruit and bitter coffee, toffee and dark chocolate. Finishes slightly bitter but a bit of licorice and alcohol. Sticky and syrupy mouthfeel with a full body and low to moderate carbonation. Very rich and warming imperial stout definitely worthy of being over a four. Nicely done. | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | Dec 19, 2008 Pour from a 22oz bottle. Pours black with almost no head. Minimal carbonation. Aroma is of chocolate, wood, dark fruits, roasted malt, and alcohol. Taste was a big roasted, almost woody malt flavor, with dark fruits, caramel, and licorice. Huge alcohol bite leaves a very long warming feel. Body is thick and robust. Mouthfeel is thick and sticky. This is definitely a sipper due to the alcohol content. craftbeerdesign (773), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 11, 2008 Bomber. Aromas of roasted malt and citrus hops. Pours a thick viscous black with pretty much not even the strongest rays of the sun penetrating. Little to no head. sticky on the palate with notes of caramel chocolate and citrusy hops with hints of dark fruit....very smooth but in all its goodness it lacks a something i cant point out. Not a bad beer from a brewery that doesnt impress me much. Hophead22 (1105), Redlands, by way of Wisconsin,, California, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 3/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Dec 1, 2008 Can I have some stout with my ash? Man! I haven’t had a beer this ashy since Coast Range’s Porter. Yowza! Not a character that I enjoy in my stouts, so when it’s something detected at this level it’s even less enjoyable.
The aroma is dark chocolate, roasted malts, alcohol, and subtle dark fruits. The beer poured out a beautiful black color with a thick black head. Flavor had too much ashyness for my liking, like licking a damned charcoal. Just didn’t dig this. Everything looked good until I tasted it. bubbleflubber (903), Collinsville, Virginia, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 28, 2008 Pours opaque black into the glass, with the slightest of deep chestnut hues on the fringe. A tiny brown cap ensues (due to ABV and aging). with sparse soapy lace. The nose is of raisins, chocolate, dark esters, roasted malts and ever-so-slight coffee. Sweet caramel and toffee malts (almost roasted) to the tongue, with the ABV superbly integrated. This is followed by lots of semi-sweet to milk chocolate, some roasted nuts, and a tiny bit of alcohol astringency. The finish closes well, bringing all of the dark fruity esters to the forefront, backed by a rich malt and slight toast. The mouthfeel is rich and creamy, one of the fine delights of the brew. All-in-all, this comes together quite well, is deeply complex (especially as it warms), and makes for a fine aperetif or nightcap. Great job!
