Night Tripper is an Imperial Stout brewed for a Fat Tuesday release. Dark, mysterious and poetic, Night Tripper's abundance of roasted malts, combined with flaked barley create a rich, roasty beer with deeply intense and lush flavors. Night Tripper's layered, nuanced tones invite intrigue and reward a curious palate.

Bottle with $8.99 price tag, I think approaching 2 years old aged at basement temperature. Black, somewhat syrupy pour; tan head. Nose shows chocolate, roast, raisin, and something a little astringent in there as it warmed (alcohol, I suppose, but sharper). Flavor sweet, caramel, chocolate, roast, alcohol. Medium-full body, too sticky for me to love. Too much alcohol character to be world-class, for sure. Decent though.

1pt 6fl oz bottle. Vintage year 2013. You have to love that first giant stout of the year when the weather is finally cold enough to want such a thing. In the cellar since September of 2013. Pours black out of the bottle with an audible "glug" and leaves a one finger beige head. On the nose, big raisin notes, molasses, butterscotch, dark chocolate, dark rum, and brandy. I guess what Iím trying to say is, it smells incredible. Full bodied with the sweetness you would expect from an imperial stout with again raisin up front, molasses, coffee, light earthiness, light caramel and espresso that leads into huge roasty malt notes, light ash, espresso with a very long finish that kind of diminishes into strong dark roast coffee notes. A repeat buy for sure.

This was a strong stout which didnít have any overly dominant flavors. The alcohol was masked nearly completely. The flavor was roasted but not burnt. Darker fruit, chocolate mostly. Not too creamy.

UPDATED: AUG 10, 2015 Sample at Great Taste of the Midwest. Aroma is licorice, roasted malt. Appearance is dark brown, khaki head, smoke. Taste is balanced, lots of licorice, roasted malt, cocoa. Mouthfeel is boozy, too carbonated, but oily and thick. Overall, still the best New Holland beer Iíve had.

Bottle from Rayís in Tosa. Black pour with a tan head. Nose has initially big raisin, with chocolate and caramel. Some molasses. Not bad in the blend. Taste is of sweet caramel, chocolate, rum raisin ... and alcohol. Later down in the glass it gets a burnt caramel alcoholly slant with marshmallow to it. Medium to full bodied. With alcohol. Finishes nicely bittersweet with an alcohol kicker. As ever with New Holland, pieces are there, but the overall fails. A bit more chocolate and a bit less alcohol, and this is quite good. 13.7

12 oz single bottle from Hy-Vee Wine & Spirits in Muscatine, poured into a snifter. Vigorous pour results in a black appearance with a small khaki head that lingers. Aroma of dark malts, molasses, dark chocolate, roast, light vanilla, light espresso, a touch of dark fruits and a slight hint of alcohol at times. Similar flavor, rich, dark and roasted with a moderately sweet, light bitter finish. Full body with a smooth, creamy feel and soft carbonation. Good stuff, better than their Dragonís Milk IMO. Give Dr. Johnís Gris-Gris album a spin while you sip on this one.

I could drink this every day! Pours black with a tan head that clings to the glass. Use a snifter to fully appreciate the chocolatey aroma. Each sip fills your mouth with its thick, full bodied, nectar of Western Michigan. The finish lingers on, but

Black pour from 22oz bottle at home. Foamy white head. A heavy whiskey flavor. Cocoa and slight sweet flavor. Not loving it. But assuming it might be the moment.

Aroma is coffee, fruit/dark fruit and a small hint of funk. The flavor is dark malts, slightly burnt toast, dark fruit/berries/vinous and a warming/alcoholic finish.
