Night Tripper is an Imperial Stout brewed for a Fat Tuesday release. Dark, mysterious and poetic, Night Tripper's abundance of roasted malts, combined with flaked barley create a rich, roasty beer with deeply intense and lush flavors. Night Tripper's layered, nuanced tones invite intrigue and reward a curious palate.

22oz bottle, 2013 vintage. Served at cellar temperature.

Pours very dark brown to black with a two finger brown head, leaves drippy webs of lacing like an IPA, holds a light cap.

Aroma is roasted malts, cocoa powder, semi-sweet smelling, vanilla, some caramel, a bit nutty, a little hops. Good to very good strength.

Flavor is chocolate, cocoa, rich caramel, roasted malts, coffee, hazelnuts, vanilla, touch of dark fruit, fairly sweet, hint of herbal hops, pretty rich, some alcohol but really not bad at all for a fresh 11% brew.

Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, creamy, a little sticky, soft to moderate carbonation.

Man this is pretty good stuff. Kind of unique too...got that dessert beer sort of vibe without any vanilla, chocolate, etc additions. Lack of boozy taste in such a big beer is a nice plus too. I like it better than their Dragon’s Milk (which is still pretty good in its own right).

From notes. On tap at The Wurst Bar on March 30. The pour is a lighter black with some hints of mahogany around the edges with a nice medium khaki head, with some incredible lacing. The aroma is surprisingly sweet. There is a good light fruity character and then the roasty malt and light licorice come through. The taste is very similar in the character. It’s almost got a bit more of a brown sugar type of sweetness, somewhat overshadowing the licorice and roast. There isn’t much bitterness to be found, which I see as a little lacking in a good imperial stout. The mouth feel is thin, lightly slick, with a good carbonation and a really sweet aftertaste. Definitely not one of my more favored impy stouts.

Bomber of this was awesome. Rich dark color. Taste improved with every sip. High APVbites with first sip but mellows to a sweet flavorful stout.

Shared bomber in snifters. Dark brown/black, cocoa head. Bitter chocolate taste with hint of vanilla. Creamy palate. Subtle, smooth boozy finish; a little syrupy.

Poured into a glass prior to Shreveport’s Gemini Mardi Gras parade. This beer is a delight. The highlight is the after taste. Very much would like to have again.

taster @ tailspin beer fest. poured a dark brown to almost black. no head to speak of. the aroma or deep dark roasted malts and chocolate and hints of coffee. the flavor was more of the same. lots of deep roasted malts and chocolate in this medium heavy bodied beer. lots of other flavors that come through as it rolls from front to back.

’12 bottle. Still black pour with a thin slick of tan foam. Heavy fudge and chocolate in the aroma with some roast and background pine/bitterness. Thick chocolate in the taste with darker malt underneath and alcohol notes with hop bitterness. Some lingering alcohol heat after each sip. Coating mouthfeel. Decent imperial stout.
