Night Tripper is an Imperial Stout brewed for a Fat Tuesday release. Dark, mysterious and poetic, Night Tripper's abundance of roasted malts, combined with flaked barley create a rich, roasty beer with deeply intense and lush flavors. 22oz bottle, 2013 vintage. Served at cellar temperature.

Pours very dark brown to black with a two finger brown head, leaves drippy webs of lacing like an IPA, holds a light cap.

Aroma is roasted malts, cocoa powder, semi-sweet smelling, vanilla, some caramel, a bit nutty, a little hops. Good to very good strength.

Flavor is chocolate, cocoa, rich caramel, roasted malts, coffee, hazelnuts, vanilla, touch of dark fruit, fairly sweet, hint of herbal hops, pretty rich, some alcohol but really not bad at all for a fresh 11% brew.

Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied, creamy, a little sticky, soft to moderate carbonation.

Man this is pretty good stuff. Kind of unique too...got that dessert beer sort of vibe without any vanilla, chocolate, etc additions. Lack of boozy taste in such a big beer is a nice plus too. I like it better than their Dragonís Milk (which is still pretty good in its own right).

2014 vintage. ABV is 11.5%. Pours very dark, almost black, with a nice tan head. Aroma of malts and alcohol. Taste is rich and fairly straight-forward. A good, solid imperial stout, but not great. Thumbs up.

bottle. Black with small head. Pretty thin looking pour - doesnít look like a typical imperial stout. This is quite an old bottle. Booze is present, but seems like itís probably mellowed out some. Molasses is the main flavor with some dark chocolate as well.

Black, brown head. Smells chocolatey and coffee and red wine. Unfortunately its a bit of a soy bomb. Lots of red wine, too. OK, but not really my thing.

22 oz bottle from de Bierkoning @ home. 2014 edition (11.5%). Black color. Beige head with reasonable retention. Aromaís: chocolate, sweet roasted malts, molasses, with mocha, molasses and some (red) fruits retronasal. Flavor is mocha-ish sweet, roasted, light drop. Body is medium to full. Finish of heavy roast, moderate bitter. Quite awesome - would love to try a barrel aged version of this.

Bottle: Black-hole black, viscous looking with a big, creamy tan head that slowly grows into a crown. Aroma is full of heavy, dark chocolate fudge, roasted malt, hints of coffee grounds, & a touch of fusel alcohol. Moreover, though, the strongest aroma is the dense, bittersweet chocolate. Flavor is no different in that regard. Huge fudge cake flavor profile with an inherent sweetness thatís balanced nicely by an onset of moderately bitter, roasted malt & warming booze. The palate shows more complexity with notes of dark prune, burnt coffee beans, faint char, & charred brown sugar. But my mind keeps coming back to that lovely fudge cake flavor. It has a strong alcohol presence at 10.8%, but never gets too overbearing or undrinkable... It just commands patience. One of the best mouth feels on a beer that I can recall. So goddamn thick, chewy, viscous; just HUGE on the palate. Ten FIDY & Marshal Z territory. I am still convinced that this is the best beer New Holland does, or will ever brew. Donít pass this one up. Awesome.

A ton of booze makes this come on way too strong. Some roast and dark chocolate, but it doesnít hang together very well. Bittersweet finish. Tap at Black Squirrel.
