Bottle: Vibrant, lighter amber with some bright orange around the edges, semi-clear & topped with a slightly chunky eggshell cap. Aroma is loaded with spicy oak, tannins, mild floral hints, botanical water, white pepper, & some mild ashy notes (not sure if they’re from the hops or the oak). Taste transcribes to a semi-abrasive heat on the palate; lots & lots of spicy oak, earthy & ashy hops, stinging floral notes, & tree bark with a mild bitterness. Hint of citrus peel, maybe? But the heaviest component in this beer is wood, in both aroma & flavor. Not bourbon. Not hops. Spicy oak. Not bad, mainly because I do enjoy the smell of fresh wood, but it’s a little over the top here.

Pours slightly cloudy amber, small white head. Aroma is mildly oaky and malty, little hop note. This IPA has a good balanced taste. Recommended.

On tap at Kalamazoo Beer Exchange. Pours a deep, clear, amber with a half finger, off white head that laces. Aroma has big notes of resin, pine, and some smooth barrel. Taste is bitter but a touch sweet. Pine, citrus, resin, grapefruit, and bourbon barrel at the end. Pretty tasty. Medium body and carbonation. A bit resiny in the mouth with a dry finish. Overall tasty. Lots of American IPA flavours paired with smooth barrel notes.

Pours an amber-brown with a white head. Definitely some wood notes at the nose along with some citrus. Taste isn’t very bitter. Mouth feel is fairly wet with a dry finish. A little different for an IPA in terms of the woody vibe.

I was a little dubious about oak aging an IPA but it worked. Didn’t take away from the bright hoppiness but added a smooth, rounded body, pairing well with a blue cheese burger with griilled portobello. I still think this approach could fail miserably but if the barrel isn’t too dominating it’s nice.

Draft. Pours a dark amber. Aroma is oak and some fruit. Taste is overpowering oak. Not very balanced.

Super pleased with this beer. It does have the IPA hops but the barrel aged makes it smooth with some yeast and biscuit flavor with caramel and alcohol. Lovely.

Pours a light mahogany with an off white head. Bourbon on the nose. Taste is all bourbon and very little hops. Too much bourbon on the palate.

2014 bomber. Thanks Shawn! pours a deep clear copper with a medium to smallish, but persistent beige head. Aroma is floral hops. Hint of oak. Taste is hoppy and bitter, but the oak barrel aging mellows it a bit. Nice long pleasant bitter finish and linger. Great beer!

Vintage 2013. 500ml bottle, foil wrapped. Light brown/copper color. Tan head. Aroma of wood, old oak, cooked sugars, toasted malts, & hops. Vanilla as it warms. Tastes is of bold sugary malts, bitter hops, harsh oak tannins. Lingering flavor of oak tannin bitterness lasts to the end of this beer. This beer tastes like what the liquid of a juiced piece of oak would-be. (4112)
