4.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 dumontn (423) - CHICAGO, Illinois, USA - JUN 12, 2011
22oz bottle pours a clear copper with a very tight 1 finger head. Aroma is wood barrel, toasted malt and a hint of earthy hops. Taste is everything I could ever want from a 5.1% alcohol beer. New Holland seems to have perfectly replicated the barrel character of the ethereal Dragon’s Milk in an incredible low-alcohol IPA. Big taste of vanilla oak barrel, followed by a mildly grassy hop note and a long caramel oak finish. Medium bodied with lower than average carbonation, this beer is creamy and delicious. Overall, this is a nearly perfect brew, great for a $5 22oz.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 bigred024 (26) - South Carolina, USA - APR 29, 2007
Filled with hops. A good beer to eat with beef or spicy dishes. Dry-hopping provides a distinctive and floral hop aroma, while the lively and hoppy body is subtly balanced with delicious malt notes.

Well.. My triumphant return to beer rating! And not a moment too soon. This beer is nothing short of brilliant! This beer is everything I love about Mad Hatter, but just mellowed out a bit, and with a tinge of whiskey on the finish. Along with the great price, you can’t go wrong with this impeccable IPA. Cheers!
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 jcos (568) - Maryland, USA - NOV 17, 2011
Location/Date:Catching up on Ratings, November 2011.
Appearance: Pours dark copper.
Aroma: Aroma is of citrus and and oak.
Taste: Pretty much as the title implies, IPA leanings with Oak..
Palate:Smooth palate on a medium body..
Summary: Solid interesting take on an IPA. I don’t know if it belongs in the IPA category though, as it’s kind of an offshoot and not traditional in style(which is perfectly fine, given my rating).

On tap at New Holland. Amber in color. Smell strong of hops and bourbon. It has rich bourbon flavor followed by hops, oak, and a slight alcohol taste. very smooth and easy to drink.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 RedHaze (371) - Where the hell am I?, Nebraska, USA - DEC 26, 2005
Pours an amber/orange color with a thin off-white head that is slow to fade to a thin ring that left behind lots of sticky lacing.
Smell; there were mild hints of grapefruit and touches of pine, but for the most part the oak smells stood out a lot.
Taste; man did the oak flavros stand out in this one. At first it was a bit hard to pick out any othe flavors, but I let it sit for a while and the grapefruit hops made an appearance, with a nice malt backbone. The oak aging made the bitterness and the citric flavors more subdued than the normal Mad Hatter, and made for a much smoother drink. Mouthfeel was medium bodied, and just a little bit oily.

Draft @ New Holland: Slightly orange with an off-white head. Big woody and vanilla aroma that rode over the hops. Woody and vanilla flavor starts off. Moving to citrus and acidic hops. Medium body. Hops are mostly covered up by the barrel. Don’t know if that is good or not.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 GregClow (2645) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 28, 2006
Draught sample at MBG 2006 Summer Festival. Nice orange-amber with a thin head. Fresh, fruity hops in the aroma, with a hint of woodiness. Flavour is very nice - a good hop heft, strong malt backbone, and a prefectly balanced thread of mellow bourbon and oak notes. This is how to barrel age a beer - very good!
