3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
12oz bottle. Aroma: Sweet caramel, bready malt, chocolate, citrus, and light spicy hops. Appearance: Amber in color and lightly hazed. Light bone head was full and frothy with good retention. Nice lacing. Flavor: Sweet maltiness with notes of caramel, chocolate, bread dough. Light hop levels for an APA. Citrus, spice, light earthiness. Moderate bitterness. Palate: Medium bodied. Medium carbonation. Overall: I was surprised by the maltiness of this one. The chocolate flavor really jumped out some times. Some light oxidation was coming through as well.

Pale yellow pour. Foamy off-white head. Nice lace. Light floral aroma, with a slight hint of warm bread. Slight bitterness in taste and finish. O.K taste. I keep looking for something else based on the higher ratings, but I’m not finding it.

Anniversary Trip 2007
5/19/2007: New Holland Paleooza is clear and light copper in color with a thin, offi-white head that leaves squiggly lacing lines around the glass. The visible carbonation seems to be mild. The aroma has floral hops, toasted malt, and toffee. The flavor is very toasty and nutty with a mild floral and citrusy bitterness. Medium body and quite smooth. A very nice pale ale!
Draught sample at New Holland Brewing Company’s restaurant and pub in downtown New Holland, Michigan.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle (thanks to Ogglethorp) poured a slightly hazed amber/orange color with a nice off white head. Aromas of sweet caramel malts and some slightly oxidized citrus hops. The taste had a big amount of caramel to it and not much in the way of hop bitterness. More of a flavor hopped beer that a bitter beer. Overall I think this might be a better beer to get fresh off the tap instead of the bottle.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pours a lightly hazed deep golden amber. Thick head of white foam, good retention and sudsy lacing. Caramel malt and citrus hops in the aroma.
This is an APA that does not skimp on the malt. Sweet bold caramel malt, a dash of honey, and then drier malt in the finish. Nor does it skimp on the hops - lots of hops for balance, a citrus flavor and aroma, and a delightfully long lasting and slightly spicy citrus bitterness, which is accompanied by a tasty butterscotch in the aftertaste. Medium body and very gentle carbonation.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very attractive irradescent orange pour with a thin tan head. Very malty aroma with some citrus hops. Very active and full mouthfeel with good initial hit of bittering hops. Balanced towards the middle by a nice doughy/bread malt presence. Slightly piney and resinous finish. Pretty good APA!

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a medium amber orange, with rise of bubbles and a fading creamy head of ivory. Aroma is a crisp waft of mature and sophisticated hops. There’s some Euro influence and an almost Barleywine-like character to the aroma. Aged lemon peels and almond centers show best. Flavor is distinctive, with a growing richness in grain body and texture. There’s a delightful citrusy sweetness to the sugars, that’s counterbalanced by the edgy hop character. Not abusive like many Cascade redolent APAs, nor lazy and gluttonous like the majority of slothful EPAs. This instead is nuance, full of breath and absolutely delightful. Like a small B-wine. Delicious. Finishes with an earthy grasp of Camomile flowers. However, the dancing bears are lame.
