Bottle shared at chriso’s Post-GBBF 2014 Tasting - London. Pours clear amber with a bubbly white head. Toffee on the nose, light butterscotch, ripe fruits. Big sweet flavor, boozy, with some buttery toffee and rich fruits. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Gooey semi-dark sugars on the finish with present booze, buttery toffee, rich ripe fruits. So so.

Bottle shared at Chriso’s post GBBF minidig, 16/08/14. Chestnut brown / dark amber with little in the way of a head. Nose carries prominent bourbon tones, dark toffee fudge, spice, woody booze, vanilla. Taste comprises rich malt, caramel, creme brulee, good dose of bourbonics, rich fruit cake, light spice. Full bodied, fine carbonation, warming alcohol in the close. Decent enough barley wine, doesn’t drink at 12%!

Bottle. Poured clear dark copper color with a moderate frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy bourbon, dark fruit and sweet malt aroma. Medium to full body with a dry smooth texture and soft carbonation. Moderate to heavy dark fruit sweet bourbon flavor with a medium to heavy sweet alcohol finish of moderate to long duration. This is a complex standout beer.

Sampled from bottle @ ChrisO after GBBF day 3. Clear dark orange to red color, average sized off-white to beige head. Aroma is sweetish, dark fruits, raisins, quite strongly vanilla and bourbon. Taste malts, sweetish, raisins, lots of bourbon, lightly vanilla, wood. Full body, medium to full carbonation. Wow, very nice!

Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks zvikar. Nice clear red-amber. Lovely aroma with malt, caramel, some cookies, bourbon, vanilla, some coconut, a bit of nuts, a bit of chocolate and a bit of alcohol. Sweet malty flavor with caramel, vanilla, cookies, bourbon, some fruitiness and a light chocolate note. Rounded mouthfeel. Very good stuff.

Dogbrick (10889) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - SEP 4, 2014
Sample at Daily Growler UA. The beer is clear deep reddish-amber color with a medium white head that recedes quickly to a thin outer ring. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of bourbon, dark fruit and malt. Full-bodied with flavors of oaky bourbon, figs and caramel malt. The finish is mildly boozy with a rich malt and bourbon aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

12oz bottle, from Dutch’s. 2015 bottle. Hazy darker red, slight brown color. Ring of off-white head, few bits of lace. With the second pour, it actually has a good thin head, touch frothier. I can dig it. Up front, great dark fruit, oak, vanilla. Great, long oaky malty aftertaste. Tasty, desert-like caramel. Moderate sweet taste, moderate bitter, very pleasant mild warmth. Bigger body. Kind of crisp, lighter carbonation. Mild dry finish. Great barrel aged barleywine. Awesome that this is available in 12oz bottles. better than I remember the regular Pilgrim’s Dole being... Although to be fair, when I tried that base, it wasn’t a fresh example. Towards the end, it does get a touch nutty, little overly dry, bit more rough. But overall, enjoyable stuff.

Bottle from Capone’s. Pours hazy, ruddy, brown with tan head. Nose was heavy oak, bourbon, caramel malt. Tasted oaky, with a heavy bourbon flavor, some hops, caramel, tannins. Dense and late hot finish, and a true behemoth of a beer.

Nice vanilla coconut bourbon character in this blonde Barleywine. Never had the base, but this is quite good.

Bottle thanks to Nathan. Pours a clear copper with small beige head. The aroma is strong gorp and vanilla. Medium mouth with similar flavor to nose, nice sweetness, very good.
