Commercial Description:
A Wheatwine Style Ale.

In early 14th Century England, Sir William of Wykeham began a tradition to assist wayfarers on holy pilgrimages. Travelers would go to the Hospital of St. Cross in Winchester for a free ration, or "dole", of bread and ale. This became known as the "Pilgrim's Dole".

12 fl oz bottle. Pours hazy orange with little off-white head. Spiced aroma, slight wheaty-like and a dry raisin note. Thick mouthfeel. Slight liqourice flavour, raisin note and thick malty. Dry finish. Warming alcohol finish. Nice.

(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of boboski. Slightly hazy amber golden with an off-white head. Fat aroma of caramel and overripe fruit. Full-bodied, sweetish caramel and again overripe fruit. Some bitterness in the finish. Classical American Barley Wine without being stunningly interesting. 180807

First taste is very sweet, hints of grain caramel and bread. It tasted sort of fruity, cherry and white wine notes. There is a soft oak aroma and taste. The alcohol is quite noticable, and had a alcohol aroma and slight burn. There is a sour taste that lingers in the back of the mouth. The body is very full and very creamy. There is no lacing and a very small head.

Bottle from Moejuck. Thanks Joe. Poured a clear dark amber with a thin white head. No lace. Aroma is strong maple syrup, caramel, toffee and tobacco. Taste is pretty sweet a mildly cloying with more elements transferred from the nose. Handed this one off to my buddy Taylor after several sips. Not really doing it for me.

(22oz bottle) Crystal clear dark amber body topped by small beige head. Aroma is moderately sweet, maple/caramel, some raisin, candied apple, tobacco. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, fig/raisin, maple. Light alcohol burn in the finish. Medium-full body, some syrup/stickiness, fairly drinkable for such a high ABV.
