Commercial Description:
A Wheatwine Style Ale.

In early 14th Century England, Sir William of Wykeham began a tradition to assist wayfarers on holy pilgrimages. Travelers would go to the Hospital of St. Cross in Winchester for a free ration, or "dole", of bread and ale. This became known as the "Pilgrim's Dole".

Clear amber body with a late-arriving but big white head. Tangy wheat aroma - melon, powdered sugar, and caramel malt. Big rich malt flavor - round fruity wheat with spicy pine hops and melon/banana fruit. A very drinkable malt-oriented BW, very similar to Bare Tree Weiss.

an amber gold color w/ a tall thick white head that laced well. A hopy malty citrus and wheat scent. The palate had a full mouth feel w/ good creaminess and a light carbonation. The flavor was a sweet malt w/ a hint of carmel and a bit of a spicy floral style hop finish. Overall a good sweet beer, but a little to sweet for my barley wine needs.

With flowers, slight malt and citrus on the nose, I also detected a slight alcohol ester. The flavor was full of flowers and candy w/ citrus, malts, and dark fermented fruit. The beer poured a golden orange color w/ thin lasting head and lacing. The mouthfeel was creamy w/ a medium body.

Pours with an amber body topped by a thin head with some lacing. The aroma is slightly sweet and flowery with lots of alcohol notes. The flavor is slighlty sweet yet sour with candy notes, a little alcohol and slight banana notes. Medium to full bodied, smooth and warming.

apple juice appearance with little head; not much in aroma (caramels and honey?)....flavor is of sugars, spices, lemony hops, and caramels...nice palate, and a decent beer overall

Bottle - A beautiful, deep dirty gold. Minimal white head. Surprisingly little aroma for a barleywine. Malt sweetness and musty wheat. Really interesting! I like this beer. I like the wheat in a big beer - first time I’ve had it. Very few hops in the nose or flavor, but - as I’ve said before - I love malty barleywines.

from the bottle poured a copper color with off white head that didn,t stay around to long but left some nice lacing. aroma a musty yeast, some sourness, grapes, alcohol some malts and hops, honey, and orange that is almost ripe the kind that has that tart flavor to it. flavor, not much compared to the aroma, grapes apples, hints of honey, orange, raisins, malts, hops. for me this is a decent barely wine I have had better, but very drinkable

Again, Lucky me! Also had this on tap at the Brew Kettle in Cleveland. Sadly, I did not really spend a lot of time thinking about rating as I tasted, I just tasted and enjoyed. Once I was finished I thought, “Damn, I should be rating this!” So here I go. Can’t recall the that well, other than I thought it was fine. The aroma I recalled as orange, raison, and honey. The taste seemed to have wheat, raisons, honey, and bourbon. A very interesting and enjoyable combo really. You taste some well covered alcohol but it’s there more as body and warmth. The body was fine but my memory does not recall specifics of that as well.
