Dec 19, 2008 Pours a murky brown with a beige head. Aroma is of wheat, caramel, vanilla, bananas, and malt. Taste was very earthy, with wheat, hops, some lemon zest, sugar, and bananas, all with a caramel malt backbone. Strong alcohol presence makes this one bitter to the taste. Not something Id drink again, but worth a try.

Dec 16, 2008 Bottle. Clear, brownish amber pour with no head. Sweet, sugary aroma of vanilla, raisin and hops. Similar flavor with a somewhat hot finish.

Dec 7, 2008 Pours a deep bronze color. Thick head which dissipates quickly. Very wheaty aroma. Like a Belgian ale.
Flavor is interesting. Vanilla on caramel. Little bitterness, almost unnoticeable. Smooth and lingering palate.
This is better than I expected.

Dec 7, 2008 20080329 Blind tasting notes and score from Cornboy 2nd annual Barleywine Extravaganza. Thin bodied, earthy, sharp, like a super hot ESB with butterscotch and some green beans. Gross. In retrospect, it is a shame this one had the dubious distinction of being served after BAON and FFF Behemoth. Too bad. Based on recent ratings, maybe they changed the recipe for the latest batches.

Dec 6, 2008 Bottle pours a clear copper color with a smallish head that fades quickly. The aroma is wheat, Belgian Ale, yeasty, and slightly woody. The flavor is all caramel, vanilla, some hints of banana clove soaked in booze, and some hops to choke off the cloy. The palate is nice, rich, smooth, and refreshing for a Barley Wine. This is great.

Dec 1, 2008 2007 22oz bottle from TBS I think. CaptainCougar peer pressured him into giving me a bottle on my visit to Atlanta. Thanks! I owe you one. Very nice. very nice indeed. Sweet and buttery as if oak aged, but not quite. Lots of caramelization, but not like the melanoidin malts I taste in many IIPAs. This is much better. A small amount of oxidation, which I think adds to the character. Dark amber color. Delicious.
