COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Pilgrimís Dole is a barleywine-style ale made with fifty percent wheat malt, or what we at New Holland call a wheatwine. Pilgrimís Dole blends warming and slightly sweet flavors with a unique caramelized character. It would be an excellent accent to nutty dishes, fruit crisps or creme brulee.
During the 14th century, the term ďPilgrimís DoleĒ described the rations of bread and ale given to nourish wayfarers on their holy pilgrimage. At New Holland, Pilgrimís Dole is brewed for the cultural explorer of today. It is a rewarding discovery on the road to enlightenment.
Whether in a snifter or from your rucksack, Pilgrimís Dole will enhance any experience and is certain to incite wanderlust and to fuel adventure.

Wow. I like this stuff. Nice maltiness that really fills the mouth. The hops are light -- towards the British side of BW. Unassuming, just a mellow brew that finds itself appealing to many ... which I appreciate. Good stuff.

Bottle, I believe it was a 2011. Poured a deep dark brown. Very sweet, like caramel or toffee. Definitely doesnít taste as boozy as I was expecting, perhaps because I had held it for so long. Very smooth and nicely crafted. A good beer for a style that I donít often care for.

Had on-tap at Hop Cat... $3 for a tulip during Happy Hour? What a steal. I didnít order this one myself, but had a few sips of it... a few very memorable sips. Appearance: A ruby sort of color with a surprising little head on it with some patchy lacing. Looks good, but not the beerís greatest attribute. Smell: Phew! Bourbon and vanilla. Caramel. Wow, that is potent. Dark fruits, perhaps, but the bourbon, vanilla, and caramel are most prominent, for sure. Taste/feel: Backwoods Bastard, in a sense... but this is a bit more harsh with the alcohol/not quite as smooth. Pretty significant bourbon character with a pretty hot finish. Vanilla, caramel, and dark fruits throughout the sip. This is actually a pretty excellent beer, though it definitely could have used a bit more time in the barrel, yet a bit less of a bourbon character. Needs some mellowing. Not as well crafted as Backwoods in my opinion, but still pretty awesome. Obviously, being different styles, this beer does have a VERY slight tartness to it.. by slight, I mean slight. Itís not like the other Wheatwines Iíve had before for the most part, but then again, those werenít poured into a bourbon barrel. I donít generally jump up and down about New Holland, but they impressed me quite a lot with this one.

3 oz. sample at Exhibit A(le). Pours a cloudy butterscotch color with a medium, beige head. Immediate notes of caramel, toasted sugar, and vanilla, with some notes of orange zest and wheat. Very sweet, in a citrusy and syrupy sort of way. Very heavy body, creamy, thick, and velvety. Overall, this is an immense, boozy, and thick beer. The candy aromas and sweet flavor layer into a cloying, overwhelmingly sweet beer.

Oh dear lord. Hazy amber pour with a small quick fading head. Aroma was big time sweet caramel and bourbon. Cherries and fruit cake. Flavors were sweet and boozy, caramel, sweet fruit, bourbon and a woody finish. Syrupy mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. This is awesome.

22oz bottle with sceen printing older vintage thanks to toby. Pours out copper topped with a small sand head. Aroma of pit fruit caramel malts toffee and a little hop. Taste is as the aroma with caramel malts leading the way some pit fruit still hanging on. A little of the hop bitterness on the end. This one was still holding up very well.

22oz bottle. Clear amber with a small head. Aroma is lots of fruity wheat and yeast esters, toffee and some alcohol. Flavor is sweet caramel malt, fruity and peppery yeast and a fairly strong alcohol heat. Medium body with soft carbonation. This one smells really nice but the flavor is a bit of a let down.
