bgburdman9 (702), Columbus, Ohio, USA Feb 1, 2008 Had this one on tap at mad mex. Poured a light brown amber color. Aroma was of a lot of whiskey first of all which i was suprised by. Had a little maltiness to back it up but this seemed like it had to have been aged in some kind of barrel. Maybe i was given the wrong beer or something but this really seemed like drinking some jack daniels.
notalush (1955), Rawn-kawn-kohma, New York, USA Jul 6, 2008 Dark copper beer with a loose lace of large bubbles - aroma of dough (cookie and bread), caramel, vanilla, strong bourbon character amplified by alcohol, and the faintest bit of wheat - the aroma is a little hot, but I love bourbon, so its similarities to it make it inviting to me - the flavor is a bit sticky and sweet up front, with notes of caramel-covered fruits - some nutty flavor arrives later, and a touch of bitterness cuts the sweetness a little bit - vanilla and bourbon character, and even a hint of oak assert themselves near the end, and an alcohol warmth again augments the boozy characteristics - some chocolate in the finish - I don’t often like boozy beer, but it works in this case. Crosling (1595), Loveland, Colorado, USA Jul 5, 2008 Cherry red color. Aroma smells of fresh pastries, dough, cookie and caramel as well as dried chocolate and dark fruit. Flavor is nicely balanced and fairly complex. Chocolate and cocoa flavors, with a touch of weiss character. It also has a nice finish to it as well. It’s a beer of high quality. bhensonb (2687), Woodland, California, USA Jun 29, 2008 Bomber from Beer Geek. Nice darker amber color with a few white bubbles and a slight ring for head. Very fruity, sweet aroma. Medium body with very mild carbonation. Flavor is malt sugar, some caramel, perhaps a touch of brown sugar. There’s a slight bite on the tongue tip. Hop is strong enough to more or less stave off the typical barley wine sweetness in the finish. The only heat I’m noticing is in my head. Arguably a lighter version of a barley wine, but I couldn’t mention one point where that’s true. Alcohol and wheat together for the ale and bread dole; drole. drewbeerme (1664), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jun 7, 2008 22oz bottle. thanks to johnycorkscrew for this. i didn’t take notes on this but i recall enough to know i wasn’t a fan. pours dark amber with off white head. aroma is very sweet, bourbon, caramelly, boozy. flavors are very sweet and biting alcohol, caramel, cotton candy, very sticky. a boozy mess of a beer. Rogueone (270), I F&ckin’ hate those guys from, Ohio, USA Jun 2, 2008 WTF. This beer has a disgustingly sticky aroma of candied crickets. It’s so strong, the beer was undrinkable for me without holding my nose. Extremely pungent, sweet malt, rum-soaked raisins/crickets, with a biting alcoholic nose. Tastes more like a cleaning solution fused with a vanilla car air-freshener that you just can’t escape from. GAH!
