Hazy amber - brown beer. Smooth silky palate, semi dry. Rich toffee - slightly boozy. Trace of vanilla. The rum is quite subtle. Semi dry finish - warming. Bitterish aftertaste. Decent but was hoping for something much more.

On tap at Kalamazoo Beer Exchange. Deeper red hue with a fluffy two finger khaki head. What a nose on this: sweet, dried fruit, cherries, sweet grain, herbal hop notes, and of course some rum barrel. Taste is very sweet, smooth if a little boozy, with a subdued bitterness underneath. Palate is nice and thick, oily, sticky, definitely a sipper. This is probably my favorite brew that I have had from New Holland. Wheat wine done right in my opinion: hefty and strong with no concessions. And the rum barrel aging was a good choice here. The sweetness of the wheat wine and the rum blend very well together. Really awesome stuff.

Denver Rare Beer Tasting. Cloudy orange appearance with a cream colored head. Sweet, slightly boozy, rum, rich wheat malty aroma. Spicy rum, rich caramel malty, fig, dark malty flavor.

Poured out of a giant Elvis at GTMW - Rosy amber, with a thin tan head. Bready and sweet aroma, with a sweet bread base, and soft yeastiness. Not picking up rum per se, but more of a general sweetness. Taste is smooth and sweet, with light herbal hops, a sweet malt base, and the rum on the finish. It’s not overpowering, and it warms all the way through. I hated most of the sweet beers I tried all fest, but not this one.

On tap at MBGSF 2011. Pours a hazy orange amber with an off-white head. Sweet caramel aroma with a hint of rum. Flavor is very sweet caramel, herbal flavor, again with rum hints. I really liked regular Pilgrim’s Dole when I had it, but this is too sweet.
