3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
This one poured a darker brown with a beige head. Aroma was of roasted malt, lots of oak, and mild chilies. Flavor was similar to regular dragons milk, lots of oak and roast with a lasting chile burn. Solid.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On draft. Aroma is bourbon and vanilla.Smooth with a spicy finish. The chilies provide a nice kick, but are balanced nicely and don’t affect the flavor. Taste is dark chocolate, berries, and oak. Body is moderate for an imperial stout. Nice use of the chilies.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draft at Crunchy’s, East Lansing. Deep opaque brown body, thin ring of beige carbonation. Lots of oak in the nose with muddy coffee, vanilla bean, and chocolate notes mixing in. Warming, very oaky body, muddy with bourbon, coffee bean, sweet toasted marshmallow, and spicy peppers that very nicely complement the oak barrel and dark malts. Still relatively hollow-bodied, although I never considered this beer a classic Imperial Stout.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Draft at crunchy's. Opaque deep brown with virtually no head. Heavy chocolate and vanilla aromas with a bit of chili at the end. Chilies really make the vanilla and bourbon pop in a great way. Slight heat in the finish.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Draft. A lot going on here but in a good way. Aroma bourbon/carmel/malt/chocolate. Almost no head. Taste is sweet bourbon/chocolate/malt and you really don’t even taste or smell any chilies until the spicy finish. Nice beer. Not as full bodied as a lot of other bbl stouts though.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sampled at FOBAB ’12 - completely missed this one early, then a friend told me to try it - something about a Dragon’s Milk barrel, but I didn’t hear what else...guess I wasn’t cognizant enough to make any connection to what I was about to experience - anyway, pour = black, thin head recedes quickly. Aroma is roasted, sweet malt and some spicy notes, pepper, and a bit of coffee. Flavor is sweet chocolate, roasted malt up front, then, woah! Chiles kick in solidly and really heat things up - boozy as well down the stretch. Palate is actually very, very smooth, but with considerable heat from both the bourbon as well as the chile extract. That being said - very good beer - I’d notch it below the GI Ghost Pepper from the previous year (will I ever go back and enter those ratings?) but still a very nice melding of spice and sweet.

Sweeter toffee, black malts, and cocoa. Middle shows some peppery spice, oak. Backend is gentle spice, cocoa, vanillam lingering bit of peppery heat. Touches of oak, vanilla, and a gentle kiss of dark fruit. Pretty solid, a touch thin, pleasant pepper and gentle barrel.
