COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This stout is sheer beer poetry. Let it warm to about 45 F and pour it into a glass to fully experience its rich, roasty flavors and hints of coffee and chocolate. One glass and you’ll agree: The Poet is truly a rich, creamy brew of epic proportions.

Bottle. Dark brown with no head. Doughy, sugary, milk chocolate aroma and taste with light coffee notes and a bright palate.

Poured from a bottle into a snifter. Appearance is black with a one finger width head of khaki colored foam. Aroma is rich milk chocolate and coffee with a touch of oatmeal influence. Taste is sweet and chocolate-y. This is the type of beer that has a nice taste without being overly interesting or influential. I like it, but wouldn’t necessarily go out of my way to have it again. The label art is pretty cool, though.

Black with a brown tinted head that lasts. Moderate roast malt aroma with a hint of sweetness. Light roasted malt flavor, same with sweetness, hint of hop bitterness. Medium body with a spiciness. Maybe mine was served too cold - I expected more flavor, silkiness/creaminess.

On tap at New Holland last week. Reviewed from notes. Pours near black with a good tan head. Spotty lacing and a bit of a cap. The nose is heavy with chocolate and a bit of roast. Really nice oat presence coming into the flavor. Chocolate there as well. Medium body and fairly chewy. Goes down nice and easy. One of my favorite beers from New Holland.

Malty flavored, in a whoppers candy sort of way. Milk chocolate, a little soda-like, medium bodied and very smooth.

Black pour, very little head. Aroma of Oatmeal, Grains, roasted malt, coffee. Bit more complexity when this one warms - Oats, grains, dark chocolate, bitter coffee, roasted malt, some lactose and hop bitterness. Thicker bodied. A Hit from a hit or miss brewery.

Poured into a snifter. 3.5 A: Black color. One and a half fingers of frothy/creamy light brown head. Retention is a tad below average and a small ring of lacing is left. 4.5 S: Soft, supple roastiness. Oats galore with a lactose-like creme smell. Straightfoward, but damn good smelling. 4.5 T: Taste is equally as enticing as the nose. Soft roastiness, chocolate enters, and tons of oats and creme again. 3.0 M: This is the only issue with this beer. The body is light and while it is creamy with respect to the body, it isn’t absolutely creamy. Good carbonation and smooth. 4.0 D: Really tasty beer. If the mouthfeel were thicker, this could be a near perfect brew. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 12-14-2011 03:20:35

Via trade with Ernesto987. The aroma is chocolate, light roast, molasses. The appearance is slightly translucent black, reddish hue. The flavor is sweet, molasses, dark chocolate. Medium in body, slightly thin. Not appropriate for the style. Normally oatmeal adds a lot of body to a beer. The finish is roast, light pine. Decent, not truly great.
