This stout is sheer beer poetry. Let it warm to about 45 F and pour it into a glass to fully experience its rich, roasty flavors and hints of coffee and chocolate. One glass and you’ll agree: The Poet is truly a rich, creamy brew of epic proportions.

Pours an oily black with a darker cappuccino head. Aroma is coffee, creamy, chocolate, caramel, warm buttery toffee, weak anise/licorice. Taste is dry dark chocolate, black coffee, then the oats and creaminess, lots of malt and a slight note of darker stone fruits. Overall a very drinkable oatmeal stout.

Pours a dark brown with coca head. Head recedes to sides of glass, curtain laceing. Aroma of roasted malts, grain and basement. Taste of dark roasted malts, chocolate, burnt bread. Taste gets deeper with warming. Has a just creamy mouthfeel. Roasted malts linger longer into the finish. Nicely done, enjoyed.

0.4 draft. Clear, dark brown color and a small, tanned head of poor retention. Aroma of dark malts, some roast, grains, hints of coffee, and oats. Medium body, creamy texture, and a soft carbonation. Finish is long and chocolaty. Overall not a bad beer, served a tad too cold though.

Dark brown with brown head. Light roast the Coco aroma (and I sense some oats but that's probably the power of suggestion). Flavor is very roasty and dry. character of lightly sweetened black coffee, taste of roasted malt and medium bittering. classic oatmeal Porter. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

It looks and tastes like soda pop. I was really anticipating something extraordinary based on the reviews, so perhaps that build up has left me flatter than this stout. Damn.

Semi-opaque dark pour with a lightly colored khaki head. The aroma is oddly fruity with an equally odd absence of roast. Oooh that’s nice and different. The flavor is complex with some spice, fruit, licorice, floral and a delicate bitterness inside of a creamy textured body. Maybe its because I just had a different stout minutes before, but I cannot detect more than a very small hint of roasted barley. This almost defies the simple category of sweet or oatmeal stout. Much more complex than just roast & coffee or chocolate. This is special. I resist giving this 20 out of 20 but why not, this is as good & 3 dimensional as any trappiste ale.
