Bottle. Poured a opaque dark brown, with a chocolately head. Lacing observed. Nice malty aroma, some chocolate tones. Sweet, malty taste with some coffee and chocolate to it. Decent.

12oz - Aroma is coffee and chocolate malt with a touch of hops. Pours black with a huge slowly dissapating creamy brown head. Flavor is roasty chocoate malt, coffee, and a touch of carmel. A creamy palate that is bubbley and goes down smooth. An easy drinking stout.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: MAY 3, 2007 bottle during my Dark Lord excursion. Pours quite black with a nice head. There is a distinct oatmeal aroma with maple syrup and mocha to boot. Pretty decent mouthfeel for a stout. Itís rather milky with a nice oaty, ashy flavor, hints of toffee, and a sweet finish indeed. If I were looking for a sweet stout, this would definitely hit the spot.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Toasty, roasty, toffee. Sorta thin. Not bad, but nothing about this stands out.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Clear brown with some lacing. Mellow aroma, with the most interesting feature being something that reminded me of a girlfriend I had in high school (her lipstick and hairspray). But the flavor was wonderfully laden with chocolate, plus sufficient roasted notes for complexity. Not super thick in palate but respectable and reasonable for a stout (non-Imperial).

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 oz. bottle. Pours dark black/brown with deep ruby edges and a really dense (maybe too much) head. Actually, I poured the last few drops onto the head and rolled to the side instead of falling through. Taste is a tannic bitterness on initial contact, but almost immediately melds into a brown-sugar sweetness. Noticeable malt, raisin, chocolate, and perhaps caramel throughout. While not overly sweet--which is good, because Iím not that fond of sweetness--it left a sugary taste in my mouth for quite some time after finishing it.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark brown body with medium carbonation and a thick, rocky beige head. Aroma of rum raisin, creamy dark chocolate, and sweet roast. A nice malty stout with abundant raisin character, medium sweetness, and a moderate, restrained roast profile. Creamy texture with decent fullness. Good, tasty beer.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Slight sourness in the nose subtracts from otherwise tempting aroma of vanilla bean, dark chocolate. Full bodied, nice aggressive roastiness. Great sugary sweet finish. Nicely done.

UPDATED: NOV 15, 2009 Bottled. U.S. Beer 24 of 31 for American Beer Month! Sweet roasty mocha java smell when the bottle pops open. Pours a nice black with barely visible red highlights, tan head seems a bit too rocky. Taste is, well, a bit of aq comedown after the fine presentation. It is nicely roasty, with a mild astringency. Pouring the second half of the bottle does give it something of a "Guinness cascade." Light English (Fuggles?) hops make it a nice beer.
