This stout is sheer beer poetry. Let it warm to about 45 F and pour it into a glass to fully experience its rich, roasty flavors and hints of coffee and chocolate. One glass and you’ll agree: The Poet is truly a rich, creamy brew of epic proportions.

Bottle. Sweet milk chocolate aroma . Ruby-pitch pour is darker than normal and complimented by a short light brown head. Taste is sweetly roasted malt, strong milky chocolate. Roast is very restrained. Medium body. No real hops or bitterness. Decadent creaminess is this brew’s chief virtue, though it lacks in potency of flavor. Good fit to style, yet not worthy of a rave.

Nice black pour, Very thin, light beige head. The aroma is a strong roasted malt. This very full bodied beer has a strong coffee flavor through out. There finish starts off the smokey / roasted malt flavor. The smokey and malt grow until the long slow finish. Good Stout!

New Holland The Poet 12 oz bottle Recent bottling, prosed 10/06 Medium pour in a dimpled mug. Poured black with brown highlights, with a medium light brown frothy quickly diminishing head with a tiny lacing ring. Smelt of light roasted grain and coffee. Taste was upfront moderate bittersweet roast and nuts with mild chocolate feel followed by a nutty taste and light bitter coffee taste with a slightly sour soy sauce that transforms into an average length light dark chocolate finish with a perfumey hop kick. Mouthfeel was light to medium, oily, softly carbonated and slight astringency. Overall, a fairly easy going standard oatmeal stout, kinda light, simple and short, but drinkable in the summer.

UPDATED: JUN 15, 2009 Beautiful black stout. Lots of roast flavor and aroma. Limited hop bitterness. Not overly sweet, which is a plus for me.

From 12oz Bottle. Dark brown, lightly transparent pour with a subtle ruby tinge and a thin layer of light tan head that quickly recedes to a dusty layer left on top. Nice, malty aroma with some notes of biscuit, light chocolate, and a dry whiff of roasted barley. Quite a bit of cocoa, actually. Medium bodied, lightly carbonated mouthfeel, a bit on the thin side. A touch of caramel and toffee stand out an the palate initially, along with some chocolate nougat. A bit of dry, roasted coffee rounds out the finish. Flavors are a bit thin, but respectable and pleasantly balanced overall. Thanks, Tom!

12 oz pours black with a medium chocolatey head. Very bready chocolate aroma with a little roastedness around the edges. The flavor is much the same a bold smooth creamy chocolate roastiness thats doughy and medium bodied. The flavor fades to a bitter lightly tanic coffee flavor that finishes long but comes too soon.

Very dark brown color with a tan head that disappears fairly quickly. Aromas of chocolate, coffee and roasted maltiness. Flavors match the aromas with a nice, long creamy finish. Well-balanced and surprisingly easy drinking.
