This stout is sheer beer poetry. Let it warm to about 45 F and pour it into a glass to fully experience its rich, roasty flavors and hints of coffee and chocolate. One glass and you’ll agree: The Poet is truly a rich, creamy brew of epic proportions.

Black with a large foamy tanish brown head. Initially, aromas of bananas, roasted malts and brown sugar poke out. As the head slowly settles out, a chocolatey aroma starts to poke in. Tastes nutty with some nice chocolate and coffee notes. Excellent tangy mouthfeel. Finish is on the nutty side with a remnant of chocolate.

black body with scarlet highlights and a tan head that rings the side of the glass and coats it on the way down. weak coffee aroma, hints of vanilla and hops. flavor is a little unbalanced, with the hops and and the burnt coffee flavors competing more than complementing each other. i did bring it up to the recommended temp and still found it not well blended. chocolates come in very late, with the aftertaste coming in with some bitter/flowery hops. if i were drinking this without benefit of the RB category, i would have thought this were a foreign or dry stout based on its aftertaste. it needs a bit more to rank highly amongst the better sweet stouts.

Pour is a almost black with a small tan head. Aroma is faint but you get some roasty qualities in there to tell you this is a stout. Flavor is a nice heavy dose of coffee and chocolate. Finish is very sweet and enjoyable. Did not sample at the 45 F the bottle told me to but still quite tasty.

Disocunt Liquors, Milwaukee, WI. - 12 oz bottle. Pours black as tar with a thick mocha colored head and decently thick lacing. Roasted coffee like aroma with a hint of overripe vegetables and candied sugar. Flavor has some bittersweet chocolate notes wiith a hint of roasted nuts and some fresh black dirt. Clean mouthfeel, nice and thick, but the lactic acid is really pronouced and makes it slighlty cloyng near the end. Still a good stout though.

Basic stout aroma; mostly faint. Very dark blackish red with a nice off white head. Mostly diminishing. Great lace. Nice flavor, but not overly distinguishing. A typical stout. Only had 6 ounces and they were distracted to some degree by drinking with highly spiced steak.

Draft at New Holland. Poured a black color with a large creamy light brown head. Complex aroma of molasses, chocolate and roasted coffee. Medium body with a creamy texture. Good long sweet flavor and finish. Well above average brew.

Deep black in color with a creamy tan head. Not getting much for aroma - some oats and cocoa powder are pretty much it. Flavor is roasted malt, bitter, semi-sweet chocolate chunks, and brown sugar sprinkled sparingly over oatmeal. Medium-bodied, yeasty. Hops and malts hold up well. Tends to lean toward being creamy at times but never comes full circle. More chocolate malts and bittering characteristics than the typical sweet stout. Finish is chocolate chip brownies.

let it warm till 45 degrees? whoa, i’ve got to try that. it was pretty darn good anyway. i was pretty darn impressed with this brew, other than its frequent over-the-top headiness...

Dark Brown Coloring with Dark Sandy Skin. Malty Aroma. Coffee, Chocolate, Developing to a More Distinct Baker’s Chocolate in the Aftertaste. Very Nice.

Dark black and a large, tan head. Very standard aroma of coffee and chocolate. Flavor of coffee, chocolate, and strawberries. Very heavy. Good.
