COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This stout is sheer beer poetry. Let it warm to about 45 F and pour it into a glass to fully experience its rich, roasty flavors and hints of coffee and chocolate. One glass and you’ll agree: The Poet is truly a rich, creamy brew of epic proportions.

Pretty nice stout. Black pour wtih a small brown head. Aroma is pretty weak, but i do smell the typical coffee and cocao. Some molasses on the nose and togue. Beer is faintly sweet and has some nice balance. Nice beer to try, but not one to seek out on a regular basis.

A Mes rate: 75cl Bottle at Chris O’s Fukito tasting.
Mid dark brown with a slim tan head. Very heavy yeast and way too many oats. Milky chocolate notes and slight grassy hops. Very nutty. Finish is quick and unrewarding. No finesse.

Pours a very dark brown almost black color with a thin cream colored head. Lightly roasted grainy aroma. Body is thin, semi-sweet with an astrigent grainy flavor which I'm assuming is from the oats. Smooth, though, with a lightly hoppy roasted finish. A respectable oatmeal stout.

Sammy (7040) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 15, 2008
A blackish stout, minimal head. Faint roast, some malt in the nose. About average mouthfeel, which is below average for this style. Modest sourness. Drinkability is about average. A decent beer, but not best representation of style.

Bottle. Deep brown with a light brown/dark tan head. Nose of sweet roast and creamed plums, flavor of chocolate covered black cherries, cream, roast (with no astringency) and a strange bit of caramelized chocolate. Soothing, smooth, oily texture, frothy and full, little to no harshness or astringency. I’m actually surprised that I liked a New Holland beer, I had some pretty bad disasters from this brewery before.

Thanks to atpayne for this. Pours deep black with a big, tan head. Aroma of malt, big chocoff, slight prunes. Tastes malty, with some molasses and chocolate at the finish. Firm palate with nice balance and complexity. A stellar sweet stout. Just marvelous.

Bottled. Poured deeper garnety-brown with a short-lived cap of beige head. The aroma picked up toasted darker fruits and sweeter chocolates with a milky air to it.. very nice charred tar and coffee on the back. The flavor held sweeter chocolate, oatmeal, and lactose sweetness at the core with light herbal and coffee bitterness around.. sweet overall, and quite engaging. Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation.. flowed well across the palate and left a very nice sweet, roasty impression on the finish. Good stuff!
