3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a dark black with brown highlights and a thin tan head that quickly dissipates. Nose is musty, earthy, with strong coffee notes and a wooden smokiness, like the smell of a campfire on a cold night. Not too heavy on the palate but smooth, with added body from oats along with a correlative cereal taste, a mild vanilla sweetness and again a dominant oaken smoke character. Finishes very faintly medicinal, with a lingering but gentle herbal bitterness. A pretty decent sweet stout.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Murky brown with a tan head that quickly fades away. Roasted malt, coffee and chocolate aroma. Roasted malt dominates the taste with notes of coffee followed by a lonf dry chocolate finish. Chewy body.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
A phenom in the oatmeal stout world. I absolutely love this beer and it is my favorite from New Holland.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a jet black, thin off-white head. Aromas are caramel, roasted coffee beans, chocolate. Thick, creamy mouthfeel. Sweetness from the roasted malts, hints of vanilla, oak, cocoa. A nice rich stout.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours nice and dark, very nice sized head and leaves a generous lace as it disappears.
Is it possible to smell thick? If so, here it is. Milk, Chocolate, and a very light scent of roasted malts are present. Oats are also in the mix.
Tastes matches the smell closely, very creamy and chocolatey. With the medium to thick body and light carbonation, this is a damn good combination.
I would absolutely have this again, although I must say as a downside it doesn’t have much to distinguish it from beers of a similar style.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught at Sheffield’s, Chicago. This stout has a very unusual aroma redolent of roasted tomatoes or maybe baked beans. The roast and vegetable flavour is very full-on, almost a bit much.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAY 29, 2010 after a 4 month imperial stout binge, decided to revisit the poet. this is one of the first stouts i ever liked. unfortunately, after having expanded my palate, i dont enjoy this one as much.. dark brown in color with a nice light beige head that really leaves a lot of lace. creamy, smooth, easy to drink. i could really pound these things. i still think it’s a good beer, just doesnt pack alot of punch. maybe i’m being too critical. after drinking my 2nd of the night, im liking it a lot more haha.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
This is a good ol’ fashioned rich, chocolatey, and creamy stout. It lounges in the glass in black obeisance ... the color hypnotizes. Noticable alohol warmth in the back of the tongue, but not in the flavor. Suprisingly strong roasted mouthfeel not usual for an oatmeal stout. Still beatifully crafted beer.
