This stout is sheer beer poetry. Let it warm to about 45 F and pour it into a glass to fully experience its rich, roasty flavors and hints of coffee and chocolate. One glass and you’ll agree: The Poet is truly a rich, creamy brew of epic proportions.

UPDATED: NOV 2, 2007 bottle. pours translucent dark brown with a thick foamy tan head. leaves heavy lacing on the glass. strong oat and light chocolate aroma. taste brings in a lightly sweet (brown sugar) roasted element and a moderate bitter. carbonation was a bit high at first but after a short sit it reigned in nicely. moderate thickness is lasting. this is an extremely well balanced stout that brings a variety of flavors. very impressed.

The aroma was fruity and roasty when first poured. Chocolate and coffee came forth with a dark roasty note of espresso and some acidity from the dark grains. Some grassy hop aromas lurked in the background as did a smidge of caramel. The beer poured into the glass black with a ruby highlight and a beige head which retreated quickly to just barely manage to lace the glass. The flavor was nicely achieved with a moderate level of roasty espresso coffee and dark chocolate and a caramel presence which kept everything from going bone dry. The bittering was crisp and lightly grassy and the beer had a nice fruity aspect. The finish was dry with lasting chocolate and roast into the aftertaste. The body was medium full and the carbonation on the low side, yet the beer was creamy and smooth on the palate. A very nice stout, good job! 12 ounce bottle.

pours a traditional stout like black, but with a very thin head. Smells of roast coffee, chocolate, and malt. Wow, taste like a cup of coffee. Good beer for the price and style. I would have no problem buying again.

A creamy tan head set atop an opaque, black brew. Rich and smooth. The malt flavors dominatedwith just a hint of balancing hops. It was lighter than I expected from a stout. It went down easily. Not much of an aftertaste.

Pours black with a tiny beige head. The aroma is roast, coffee, caramel, and chocolate. The taste is roasty, mildly sweet and chocolatey with a very nice silky mouthfeel. Pretty good.

Bottle poured black with a medium frothy tan head and notable lacing. Aroma includes coffee beans, cocoa, bakers chocolate, and oatmel. Oats are more evident in the taste joined by roasted malt and bittersweet chocolate. Enjoyable finish and nice mouthfeel.

Nice coffee stout. Loved the taste of it. Some caramel in it too. Would be another great one for winter time, just sitting around sipping. Could use a little more alcohol.
